Republicans Losing The 'Security Moms'

August 18, 2006

Today, the Washington Post reports that President Bush and Congressional Republicans continue to lose support from their traditional base and groups like the "security moms" that have supported them since Sept. 11, 2001. As voters lose confidence in the President and Republicans' ability to keep America safe, Republicans have seen their electoral edge disappear heading into the mid-term elections. Americans are frustrated with the Bush Administration's failed policies in Iraq and no longer is "terrorism alone enough to keep" married women and GOP voters. Democrats are committed to security policies that are both tough and smart and a change in course in Iraq. Both at home and abroad, Democrats are offering a new direction for America this November.

"All of this suggests that the latest campaign by the GOP to portray Democrats as wobbly on security will be harder to sell in today's climate...."
