The State of Our Union
Posted by Tracy Russo on January 23, 2007 at 10:46 PM
Governor Dean:
“Democrats welcome President Bush’s call to achieve ‘big things’ for the American people, but he should remember that the American people know actions speak louder than words. For too long, the words from this President have not matched the action required to solve the problems that hard working Americans face. From the escalation of the war in Iraq to his new health care tax to the energy crisis, once again tonight, we heard more hollow promises and empty proposals that just won’t fix the problems.
“Last November, the American people spoke loud and clear. Democrats heard what they had to say and are focused on continuing to deliver on the promises we made as we pass an increase in the minimum wage, improve our homeland security, help more kids go to college and promote life saving stem cell research. We hope the President will make good on his rhetoric this time and truly work with the bipartisan Congress to get things done for the American people.”
Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Reid just released the following statement:
"Congress has demonstrated in the last three weeks that great things happen for the American people when we work together. In his sixth State of the Union Address, President Bush once again talked about many of the issues facing our country. It is long past time to stop talking about our problems and start working to solve them. The Congress is delivering results, and doing it in a new way - by reaching across the aisle and putting the American people first. Tonight, we welcomed President Bush's overtures of bipartisanship and we hope to begin working with him to move our country in a new direction.
"Energy independence is a national security issue and an economic security issue. President Bush's goals for energy independence are commendable, but we now must get straight to work on a real national energy policy. In Congress, we have already begun work in earnest on renewable fuels, on global warming, and on shifting energy tax incentives away from Big Oil. We ask the President to join us to take real steps forward.
"Unfortunately, tonight the President demonstrated he has not listened to Americans' single greatest concern: the war in Iraq. The overwhelming majority of Americans, military leaders, and a bipartisan coalition in Congress oppose the President's plan to escalate the war. Democrats, Republicans, and the bipartisan Iraq Study Group have offered the President a plan to end our open-ended commitment to Iraq, transition the U.S. mission, and begin the phased redeployment of American troops. While the President continues to ignore the will of the country, Congress will not ignore this President's failed policy. His plan will receive an up-or-down vote in both the House and the Senate, and we will continue to hold him accountable for changing course in Iraq.
"When it comes to health care, we welcome the President's commitment to help the 47 million people living without health care and the millions more in danger of losing it. However, the President's plan falls short of meeting the health care challenge. Health care is a crisis in costs and coverage, and the President's plan will make both fronts worse for millions of Americans.
"Last November, Americans asked all of us in Washington to work together. Democrats will continue to take America in a new direction by making our nation energy secure, improving access to affordable health care, cutting costs for middle class families, and working to end the war in Iraq."
The President's seventh State of the Union address did not bring our nation fresh ideas or solid plans to fix the problems we face, just more empty rhetoric and hollow promises.

Long live Democratic Power!
Bravo to the Democrats for choosing Webb, bravo to them for letting him write his own speech, and bravo to Webb for having the courage to use the word "corporate" and bring up the concept of "class."
Proud to be a Democrat today. Thanks, Howard.
Time for me to call it a night. I must be in the Capitol for my first OAEO Winter Conference class which starts at 9 a.m.
I'm so stoked about our new Democratic Sec. of State! After opening session, it's the big democratic reception for our AG, Treasurer, & SOS, then the Ohio Democratic Chairs meeting! Afterward is karaoke! I've been practicing some Dixie Chicks and Patsy Cline!
If I don't get the chance to be on line this weekend, everyone enjoy!
Hey Esme - how is everyone doing?
Lighten up on the president. He’s doing the work of 3 men. You know, Larry, Curly, & Moe.
Besides, Native Americans have named Bush “Walking Eagle.” A medicine man explained the meaning of the new name by saying Bush is so full of shit he can’t fly.
Shelley,
I'm with you. Webb openned up a lot of avenues that have been taboo for far too long. Class warfare and multinational excuses need to be debated and discussed. The Republicans have been operating under both for 15 years now without anyone challenging them on it.
I'm saying Good night, too. Essie, I hope you enjoy the conference and classes.
Good night, Sandy! It sure feels great to watch people not clap, doesn't it.
The President said he considered several alternatives before deciding escalation in Iraq was the best policy, but he never explained what alternatives he considered or why escalation is the best policy. Although his tone was more somber, his message was still the same, "Give this plan a chance, because I'm telling you this is best." He never provided reasoning to support his bald assertion. He provided no evidence to the Country that he gave thoughtful consideration to alternative proposals and no evidence his proposal is the best. The media is once again being too kind to the President.
After waiting nearly three (3) months and listening to the Iraq Study Group. I think I’ve come to the same conclusion some of you arrived at years ago. There are no good options in Iraq. When we leave, it will probably be a disaster until the Iraqis can resolve their civil war. If we leave in two (2) years, the result for the Iraqis would be the same as it would be if we left six (6) months. The result for America would not be the same. If we leave in two (2) years, more Americans would die for a mistake than would die if we left six (6) months from now.
After the November 7, 2006 Election, I entered a post on this Blog urging some of our more intelligent bloggers to give policy makers time to examine all the alternatives and formulate the best response possible response to the Iraq debacle. I was concerned about the chaos that I believe would result if we pulled out of Iraq. Although I remain concerned about that, I now believe phased “redeployment” of our troops is the best option we have (out of a series of bad options).
I believe Bush picked the worst possible option. He’s going to place in harm’s way enough troops to perhaps maintain the status quo, but he’s not going to simultaneously pursue a resolution to the Iraq War through diplomatic and political channels. More Americans will die and nothing will change. The best option I’ve heard is a phased redeployment of our troops while we simultaneously help the Iraqis pursue a diplomatic and political solution to this war. Ultimately, the Iraqis must decide what kind of a country they wish to build.
President Bush spoke about health care, but he failed to explain how his healthcare plan was going to help additional individuals become insured. Poor people pay little to no federal income taxes, so tax credits and health savings plans will not help the vast majority of uninsured individuals become insured.
Even if we assume the President is correct and his "Healthcare Standard Deduction" would more than offset the additional income employees who have insurance through their employers would have to report on their tax returns, I'm not sure this will be the case three to five years from now.
Think about the rate healthcare costs and the rate the cost of healthcare insurance are increasing. Given the rate of increase in the cost of healthcare and healthcare insurance, within a few years the additional income individuals would be forced to add to their tax returns may more than offset Mr. Bush's "healthcare standard deduction."
Assuming healthcare costs continue to rise at or near the current rates, within a few years individuals could be paying additional federal income and payroll taxes as a result of Mr. Bush's plan. Similarly, employers could be paying additional payroll taxes due to Mr. Bush's plan. Ten years from now Mr. Bush's plan could be disastrous.
I found the President's plan to be somewhat confusing. He mentioned a standard deduction for the payroll tax as well as the income tax. That would require some tricky drafting. It could increase tax preparation costs.
It is a Democratic value, but you were constantly reposting the same thing on multiple threads, and then you started to get insulting, even after having your issues addressed several times. If you want to contact Pelosi, do it through normal channels. She doesn't blog here. Playing a professional victim never works.
Well, we're movin on up....

Ooops. I keep forgetting. Not everyone here is single. I hope I didn't get you in trouble with your man. (LOL) I don't know if it was the lighting or what, but I never really noticed that he's sort of good lookin. I was like, "hmm".
;p
Okay. I can't tell which Thread we are on and I have a lot of Departures and Arrivals to prepare so I'm out for the night. It was wonderful.
Good Night, Gregg, DPD and Hybrid.
:)
It was wonderful to see Speaker Pelosi sitting up there. What a needed contrast to ol' Tricky Dick Cheney. I'm glad Bush was humble enough to note "Madame Speaker" and Pelosi's father from Baltimore listened to SOTU speeches.
Sen. Webb was right on the mark. Good work Dems. I'm very glad he related the history of run-away responsibility and greed, and related it to today's political and economic situation.
This was the first time Bush talked about balancing the budget. I can't wait to see his plan to do that in 5 years. He talks like a Democrat with the reality stuff about global warming, alternative energy, and peace. Hummm... I think Reaganism is DEAD.
Long live Progressive values and Democratic Power!
THANK YOU GOV DEAN for a job well done!
Well, let’s put it all in a nutshell. All Bush really said to Democrats is what he thought we wanted to hear and he said it just before laying down the biggest bunch of B.S. any American has ever heard. Nothing he said was accurate. I like him to walk in a working mans shoes for a while so he can see how hard it is for us to live and feed our families. I helped elect this Democratic majority and I would like to see them do something with Bush before he ruins our country. Why are we not talking about impeachment? Why are we allowing him to send more troops? Why can’t he be stopped? The only terrorist I see is Bush.
Also, what was that garbage about hiring private citizens to go over a help fight? Is he mad? That is provoking Americans to be terrorist in Iraq. I thought that’s what we were fighting against. He also wants to have 92000 troops in Iraq within 5 years. How long does he want this war to last? I predict he will escalate this war right about the time he is supposed to leave office then declare state of emergency so he can stay in office. Has this scenario occurred to anyone else? Maybe I’m wrong but nothing good has come from Bush being in office and in my opinion its only going to get worst. Only a fool or a rich man would want to keep him in office. I know one thing for sure. Clinton might have got impeached for getting oral sex from a girl but Bush is screwing the whole country and no one has done anything to stop him!!!!
Think Progress has A Total Debunking of the LIES that the Chimp Made During SOTU '07
Bush - as expected - didn't provide much in the way of new data for the American public to absorb. Bush tried to set the opening tone in a generous, bipartisan way by recognizing the new Speaker of the House. But afterwards, as Paul Begala pointed out, his true partisan colors showed through the waist-deep Republican rhetroic by congratulating the "Democrat Party" for their gains in Congress.
He repeated a few things from prior SOTU speeches (energy, immigration) but gave an empty laundry list - the tray of food without the food on it. He announced proposals the public wants to hear, but there was no plan or thought behind how to acheive these goals. And his plea to Congress and the American people to "please" try his plan for Iraq. Again, no substance - just talk.
The highlight of my evening was viewing the excellent job Jim Webb did in responding to the address. For being in office for only 18 days, he was an excelent choice for a rebuttal.
I have been promoting the I^4 policy. These "I" includes
Investigation
Indictment
Incarceration
Impeachment
These are the steps to reconciliation for Americans who feel they were miss-lead into the war in Iraq. Funds were squandered for the war effort and reconstruction efforts in Iraq. Opportunities were lost from the world’s heartfelt anger towards the attackers of the world trade center. Funds were squanders from the hurricane ravaged areas of New Orleans and Mississippi. Incompetent cronies placed into high government offices with wasteful spending and illogical priorities.
…and today …I find President Bush adding to the “I’s”.
Imagination
Pure unadulterated fabrication of his imagination with no facts to bases his statements; …imagination to link 9-11, to Iraq, to Shiite’s, to Iran, to Syria, to etc... A diatribe and monolog filled with figments of “I”magination.
Dearest Democrats,
DO NOT SIGN UP FOR CIVILIAN RESERVES UNTIL ONE UNDERSTAND THE BENEFITS AND CLASSIFICATION OF THE JOB!
Please tell everyone you know, not to sign up for civilian reserves until one understands the benefit package and classifications of the jobs. This is analogous to signing up for service to the country but without the military benefits. No veterans benefits, No retirement benefits, No burial benefits because as a civilian, one is not in the military (not the Navy, not the Marines, not the Air Force, not the Army).
This president is hoping people are dumb enough to allow themselves to be enlisted into service but be classified as a civilian to continue to fight this war on the cheap.
They did this during WW2 and many people, families and children suffered when their loved ones signing on, died or got wounded and could not receive benefits.
This president wants you to commit your life to him, but he does not want to give you the benefits and honor of military service personnel’s. He wants you to sign away your life on the cheap. Your family will not get the death benefits from military service personnel if one joins the civilian reserves.
Wise up this President doesn’t give a damn about the enlisted men or civilians working for the service of this country. To bring up a proposal to cheapen the cost of the war and dishonoring the service ranks is pathetic.
Hey Esmeralda;
Is this what happens when democrats here disenting views towards their party? Why did you lock out "IraqWarVeteran"?
Long live Democratic Power!
I guess Freedom of Speech is not a Democratic value.

I did not lock out anybody! I don't have that power, I'm just a blogger here. I have never wrote to the DNC moderators to ever remove anyones posts.
Bluff or deal...?
The state of the Union Address was so loaded with things the American People have been waiting for so many decades that it smells to high heaven.
Either someone is calling someone's bluff on issues like Global Warming, Justice, Health Care, Energy Policy, Diplomacy, Israel-Palestine Peace, HIV - Malaria etc.; or there has been some deal cutting behind closed doors.
I'll give you your war surge, if you give me some of these...?
On the other hand, taking under consideration decades of inaction on most of the above mention critical issues on the part of both parties, it might just be a case of calling "bluff".
I am very skeptical that all of a sudden things are going to change, and I hope for mankind's sake, I am wrong on this. Let's see what Democrats are really made off...
After listening to many of the Presidential Candidates respond to the Union Address, I have to say that in my opinion the only one talking straight about the "war" is Dennis Kucinich.
The rest...?__ all sound like they are riding the wave or sitting on the fence on this one.
...and that includes the "media" commentary.
hello peole!
the bingo game made the liar in chief's lies more bearable. I counted 6 times that he mentioned 9-11. but he never once mentioned Bin Laden. cheney was giving Nancy the evil eye. although it is a HUGE honor to be speaker, I'll bet it pains her to sit so close to him. ugh. he is the devil incarnate. evil. downright evil. maybe he is getting nervous because of the Scooter Libby trial. or does ANYTHING make cheney nervous? I'm off to work so y'all have a nice day!!!!! bye now!

Senator Durbin blogged at Kos last night and you can find it here, sidebar on the right. Josh Marshall posted his comments in a video and several bloggers took up his invitation to do the same.
Day two of the trial will be interesting. gregg was more optimistic than i am, and DPD is the president of the Fitz fan club, so i'll watch for their comments. Seems to me that Cheney should have been indicted, based on the gist of what i heard yesterday. Well, i'm not a lawyer (thank you JEEZ-USSSSS) so it's all too complex for my simple little mind. Hope to read a report from the local experts. DPD, how do you know there is a sealed indictment on Rove? SOP? Is this what the TruthOut (was it Pitts?) story was about?
Update on the Rove Indictment Story
By Marc Ash
Thu May 18th, 2006 at 01:57:53 PM EDT :: Fitzgerald Investigation
For the past few days, we have endured non-stop attacks on our credibility, and we have fought hard to defend our reputation. In addition, we have worked around the clock to provide additional information to our readership. People want to know more about this, and our job is to keep them informed. We take that responsibility seriously.
Here's what we now know: I spoke personally yesterday with both Rove's spokesman Mark Corallo and Rove's attorney Robert Luskin. Both men categorically denied all key points of our recent reporting on this issue. Both said, "Rove is not a target," "Rove did not inform the White House late last week that he would be indicted," and "Rove has not been indicted." Further, both Corallo and Luskin denied Leopold's account of events at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm that represents Karl Rove. They specifically stated again that no such meeting ever occurred, that Fitzgerald was not there, that Rove was not there, and that a major meeting did not take place. Both men were unequivocal on that point.
We can now report, however, that we have additional, independent sources that refute those denials by Corallo and Luskin. While we had only our own sources to work with in the beginning, additional sources have now come forward and offered corroboration to us.
We have been contacted by at least three reporters from mainstream media - network level organizations - who shared with us off-the-record confirmation and moral support. When we asked why they were not going public with this information, in each case they expressed frustration with superiors who would not allow it.

We ended the day with the testimony of Marc Grossman, former number three man at the State Department. One of the more interesting tidbits to come out about Mr. Grossman is that, the night before his statement was taken by the FBI, he had a visit from Richard Armitage. Armitage told Grossman that he had been the person who initially leaked to Robert Novak regarding Valerie Wilson. This is a very odd occurence — Grossman characterized it on the stand as Armitage giving him a professional courtesy by telling him up front, himself, and then saying he could feel free to mention it to the FBI — which Grossman did the next day. I find it very odd indeed that a witness who had already been debriefed by the FBI, at the level that Armitage was, would feel as though it was acceptable to discuss his own debriefing with Federal agents with someone who was about to also be debriefed. Very odd indeed.
The outstanding issue in my mind on this still remains who was it that tipped Novak off to talk to Armitage about Valerie Wilson in the first place? Did Armitage bring up the issue of Valerie Wilson's identity on his own? Or was Novak hinting around the edges about the Wilsons during the meeting that he had with Armitage at the State Department? And if Novak was hinting, who put that thought in his head to even ask about Valerie Wilson — and why? Hopefully, we will get some answers to this during the course of this trial.

Warning to Metro East Residents:
Mary Cheney to speak today at McKendree
Mary Cheney, the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, speaks at 7:30 p.m. today at McKendree College in Lebanon.
As a senior adviser to her father, Mary Cheney was in the middle of every major event of the 2000 and 2004 presidential contests, including the conventions and debates as well as on the trail.
Making life even more interesting, Cheney, a lesbian, became a lightning rod in conservative circles.
Cheney, 37, has described her life inside the campaign bubble in her memoir, "Now It's My Turn." She talks about her close relationship with her parents, how it feels to be pursued by the press and what it was like when her sexual orientation was made an issue.
Currently, Cheney, who is now pregnant, is vice president for consumer advocacy at AOL Inc. and has moved to Great Falls, Va., to be closer to her family. Her talk, part of McKendree's George E. McCammon Memorial Distinguished Speaker Series, is free, but reservations are strongly recommended by calling 537-6863. The talk will be in the school's new Hettenhausen Center for the Arts.
Good morning fare Dem's.
Well, we made it through the 'Liar in Chief's' SOTU address. He is such a blow hard and Cheney in the background smirking when Bush was talking about alternative/renewable energy made me want to reach through the TV and 'bitch slap' him. I thought Pelosi was going to bite her tongue off a couple of times and I don't blame her.
I am also so sorry for the behavior of my representative Michele Bachmann. She was the one as Bush was walking out that had a death grip on his shoulder and wouldn't let go until he kissed her. GROSS! She is truely a groupie or is that a groper? Anyway I have a scenario running through my head that I must get out....
President Bush and Michele Bachmann are caught in an intimate liason. Bush is impeached and Bachmann if forced to resign. She then writes a book entitled, 'How I Loved My Bush'.
please...please....please..if there is a G*d...please, pretty please!!!!
I was really pleased with Jim Webb`s response. However,I have watched w too long to think this ride for the next 2 years will be easy. He`s been baiting & switching for 6 years.I`ve learned with him that talk can be real cheap. So far it looks like our party is ready to put his feet to the fire.I know Jim Webb is more than willing to do that. With Iraq in particular we need to be tough and united except for Lieberman of course.

Kev,
Thank you for your thoughtful post last night.
I had come to the same conclusion about two years ago but had not considered the phased redeployment option. It's a lot more realistic approach than just pulling out.
I think an incentives program should be attached to this idea which encourages all factions in this civil war to negotiate their differences.
We might be surprised what can be accomplished once the warring parties know for certain that we are not going to stay past a certain point. And I think Iran might be surprised, too. The Iraqis have not historically been closely allied with the Persians.
In this part of the world bargaining is a way of life. Rather than be a puppet of any other power, the Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites might go for burying the hatchet. Even with the recent bad bloodletting, they might decide it's better to standing alone with no foreign interference.
I guess I have more faith in the will to be independent than be oppressed. I can't believe that anyone would want this chaos to continue indefinitely....except a madman like Cheney.
Did ya'll see Sen. Chuck Schumer on Imus in the Morning?
So, we have half of the Senate running for president and the other half od the Senate Campaigning for the half running.

Off the chain! If something doesn't sound right? It usually isn't. Step back and start looking at a bigger picture.
anybody can develop any poll so that will give the results they want. Control the stats and variables and viola! Got yourself a poll that validates your claim.
Spoken like a true representative of this party - we need all of our representatives to not only speak loud and clear against this administration, but be decisive and act. Senator Jim Webb - thank you.

I'm learning more and more to validate my posts with proof and facts. I actually, believe it or not, appreciate when regulars here correct me if I'm in error about something because it keeps me accurate. Now that I have a home puter, I can conduct a more effective research and relay more fact as opposed to just my opinion. The best lesson my Daddy taught me was,
"Never state your opinion as facts. ALWAYS make certain to diffrenciate as not to mislead people"
He was talking about the Bible as I used to be a volunteer Sunday School Teacher for Childrens Church but I use it in every aspect of my life.
I am really considering going back to school for my degree in Journalism.
Stand back and look at the big picture - do this with George W. and his family and one will see things that will scare them sh*tless.
These folks only purpose for being in government/public service is to use the resources, policies and tenants to further their own aims and money making. Bascially the government is a tool that gives them easier acsess to make money easier and lots of it at one given time.
Point: War in Iraq an entire industry of contractors have grown through the Pentagon and elsewhere to provide a products/services for the war mongering. They even hired contractors to tell them HOW to hire contractors bidding on war services/provisions.
The war is not going to stop on a dime as we may all want because of one thing: money.
Posted by fade2bluz on January 24, 2007 at 08:29 AM
fade,
If we are to believe what Scooter is asserting...Cheney was the one who was directing all the manipulations behind the scenes. Armitage is a loose end that may trip them all up in the end. He doesn't belong but yet he's there.
When Fitzgerald starts turning the screws on those involved under cross exam, some may trip up on the agreed upon story. I especailly want the President called to testify about what he knows.
Cheney is as deeply involved in this conspiracy as Rove....and even the average rank & file Republicans knows it. They are both masters of using dirty tricks. Committing treason and engineering bogus intel to start an unnecessary war for political purposes was easy for them.
They ignored the plight of those trapped by Katrina, stole an election using the Supreme Court, and committed torture in gulags around the world...and didn't think twice about doing it.
Honorable men. They are all honorable men in this administration.
I am really considering going back to school for my degree in Journalism.

J,
I believe President Eisenhower warned us about this nearly 50 years ago. But he didn't realize that an enitre crime family would emerge to corner the market.
Gotta run. later.
For what little it is worth, I didn't like a single thing I heard from Mr. Bush last night. His proposals on energy are thin, not realistic. His proposals an health care will make the situation worse. On the war in Iraq, hw wants to force the Dem's to cut off funding so that he can gain some political traction and later blame the failure of his ill advised invasion on the Dem's. And he's willing to sacrifice more American lives and money to try to cover his own ass. Ain't going to work, Pelosi' too smart and tough, she's going to show him up for what he is, an incompetant, arragant screw up.
FOS
Go back to the pre-SOTU thread and between 2-3 am, I started my elimination of candidates. Started with Hillary.
as for using the Bible to vaildate your statements, one can never go wrong. :)

No. That was the purpose my Dad told me about validating with facts. In other words, back my Biblican Teaching up with the Bible. I use that lesson in all things. Like, use the facts via links to back up a news story.
Check this out.

For what it's worth, none of Bush's proposals will come to a vote. He doesn't have the rubber stamp Congress any longer. He's a lame duck dead in the water who will stubbornly continue to risk the lives of our troops over his hurt pride.
I really want him on that witness stand...with no one there holding his hand or prompting him on what to say. I bet he know everything.
Posted by SandyH on January 24, 2007 at 09:22 AM
SandyH that's because Eisenhower knew as every other President just what REaLLY starts wars and the forces behind them. They are generated for one thing - to make money. Can't think of the person who made the quote, but as they said, there are only two reasons to go to war-The Bill of Rights and one's home. any other reason has another agenda.
Woodrow Wilson stated when he was in office that there was a pervasive force that was visible/invisible that controlled even he and that one best left unsaid anything else about it. Well it was the moneymongerers that Wilson was talking about. The folk that quietly meet and decide how events will play out in nations/countries so as to put things in position for them to make money.
Morning all, didn't you enjoy Webb's post speech, speech? Stand Back bush, we will show you how!
Watched parts of the Bush Lie . Amazing how old he looks, and the little touch of humility now that his mandate he was given to spend after 2004 has been taken away and he is nothing! Barely a smirk anymore.
Listened to Matthews, Olbermann, Brokoff, Russert, etc on MSNBC dissertate the speech and the crowd. They thought that McCain's slumping was very telling ! They mentioned how the speech writers threw in "support the troops" after his Surge proposition, so that Democrats (and Repubs) would have to clap and stand up! I don't think Americans were swayed by that at all.
And to Iraq War Vet (if you even are), here is an older post written by the blog moderator to someone else who was sniveling about his rights taken away:
"If you've been banned, you deserved it. You crossed the line at some point and you were cut off. There's plenty of debate that goes on here - by liberals, moderates and conservatives - Democrats or not - and we like it that way. We're VERY liberal (not in the political way) in what we allow on these threads. You think this is oppressive? Go over to the RNC blog (if you can manage to register and login in less than 60 steps) and say something even moderate. You'll be gone in 10 minutes.
Know that we review every post you've made before you're banned. If you're always at the line and cross it just once, I have no problem banning you. Just because you come back with a different name doesn't mean that you'll somehow be able to skate by and not be noticed. Keep the debate respectful and intellegent, and you're free to stay. Call someone a name (including stupid), and you're likely to get it.
And, yes, I'm much more forgiving to Democrats, but you're free to come on over if you want the same courtesy. Debate is good, but I'm not going to let some Republican eat up thread all day while Democrats try to have a real conversation"
I see an excellent job was done by our Moderators last night, to keep the thread on message by wiping out the troll as fast as he posted. Just like he never existed !
He gives new meaning to the term "Dead Man Walking"!
I did mot like anything Mr. Bush had to say last night. No need for me to go into it, all of us know what he is all about. I sent 5 or 6 questions to Senator Clinton for her webb cast. Didn't expect any answers and didn't get any. I know that she had thousands of questions sent in. But the ones that were used seem to be "soft ball" questions and her answers were general, not enough specifics. Kucinich seems to be talking more directly to the issues....John Boy...
You guys!
Turn to CNN if you can.
They are about to do a segment on this strange looking eel-like fish thingy that they found ALIVE and swimming around.
Now. I'm very interested in this because I want to know if the Global Warming Effect (Ice Bergs Specifically) is thawing out old sea life and you know how things survive if they are frozen in certain temps? Eeek!
It may be a stretch but between this and that find last year with that dead giant Bird-Like Reptile carcus off the coast of Europe, it's worth checking out.
;p

It's a beautiful thing.Huh?
:)
If there ever was an event that painted the Bush administrtion for what they really are how they feel about the people in this country, it was the natural disaster of Katrina.
I personally will not never let it go unsaid as to how this administration let over 100,000 people stay in a professional sports stadium with no air conditioning, water or food for over 4 1/2 days and just about the same amount of people packed into a convention center in the same circumstances before anything was done to get these people help. This I viewed and cried with the rest of america as these folks suffered.
But now this is the same government/administration that flew hay bales to cattle in Colorado when the snowstorms had the roads blocked and the farmers couldn't get food to them.
I just can't get that analogy out of my head. You could get help to stranded animals, but you couldn't help assistance to human beings.
Okay.
I don't know what happened to that segment on the eel-thingy, but I'm gonna wait for it.I'll see if they post it on line too so I can show ya'll what I'm talking about. The thing looks like a live dinosaur creature.
That Frosty creature posted with me between 2-4 am, but I never answered any of his posts as I was commenting. Just let him yip-yap to himself and I did the same.

Very interesting to see what the effects of global warming are especially with animals and their habitats.

I can totally identify with this sense for myself.

actually, D, it is sad. that a man has no emotion other than so much hatred & anger.
What a telling statement about GWB. Every news program and station seems to be leading with the same headline on last night's speech. Saying that Bush is asking the Country to 'Give War a Chance' isn't there a song called 'Give peace a Chance'? I find it quite telling that Bush continues to push for war, including another air strike this morning in Somalia.
He is officially (as if he wasn't already) a warmonger.

AMEN!
So there is legislation going before the Georgia Legislature to split Fulton County (atlanta). Basically the affluent north where whites reside from the southern end which includes the impoverished neighborhoods of the inner city.
Now it doesn't take rocket science to figure this picture out and to go even further even Stevie Wonder could see what's going on in this scene.
and the funny part? The folks that are pushing this can't even give a valid reason other than using the bus and library system.
We all know what it is! Don't even make me say it.

This is halarious.
I found it on You Tube.
Evil State Of The Union
SandyH..9:29...right on!...love to see that...we may gat a crack at Cheney first. My new year's wish is still in play: that Bush and Cheney both are forced to resign in disgrace and that Pelosi assumes the presidency and we have almost two years to get this country turned around before the '08 elections with out having to worry about Bush vetoing our legislation. Don't laugh, this IS America and IT COULD HAPPEN!!!....John Boy....
goodfoe on January 24, 2007 at 10:16 AM:
goodfoe,
So, the president's new years resolutions are official. Let the Congress get on with showing him the way!
I am ever amazed at this once great party and how it has changed. The leaders always speak of change without giving a plan of change. The only thing we hear from the dnc is how bad Mr. Bush is without spelling out their ideas for change. A generalization is not an idea. Speaker Pelosi is the worst thing to happen to this party in years. She will be the death of this party along with Senator Clinton. Not because they are women, but because they are misguided. I have no doubt that they feel they are doing the right things for this country but I feel that they are out of touch with working people and small business owners.
We in this party that have been left behind so that our liberal, so called, leadership could embrace the left wing policies and partnerships most stand up for what we believe.
We believe in low taxes, less government, national security, closing our borders to illegal aliens, and winning our war against the terrorist.
National healthcare is not my God given right it is socialism. If you want health care work hard and achieve it for yourself. It is not the governments responsibility to provide things for my family that I can provide with hard work and determination. Thanks but no thanks!
Barack Obama for President? God Forbid!
I have to admit, I never considered myself a democrat but thanks to the worst president in the history of our great nation, I have changed my mind.
I agree Iraq is a total cluster f@#$, and like one of the posters stated, there are no good options. The only way for stability in Iraq is to kill off at least one of the factions, every man woman and child. I say at least one because I would hope after that the other two would wise up. I know this sounds insane and it is but there will be no other way to "fix" Iraq. So am I saying we SHOULD do this, no, but I am also saying no matter how long we stay things will never be stable. Those people have been killng each other off for religious reasons and nothing we say or do will change this. The only way Saddam could control them was through death and fear and it worked. These people are religious zealots and noone can MAKE them change their ways other than thru brute force.
Our idiot president should be impeached for getting us into this mess, for God's sake we impeached President Clinton for having sex with a fat chick. Scumbag Bush has done much much much worse to this country than any sex with a cigar could ever have done.
Now this I direct to the democrats, we put you all in power for a reason, we want change and we want it now. Find a way to leash our idiot president or do to him what LBJ did to JFK!
As far as our energy consumption, the fact that in 2007 we are still an oil based economy is shameful and when the bottom falls out and this country goes in the toilet we have noone to blame but ourselves. Maybe if we stop putting oilmen in the Presidency we can move past this old, destructive oil loving habit we have.
As far as healthcare is concerned, how sad is it that will all of the money stolen from our checks every week we can't have socialized medicine that is free and open to everyone. Maybe if we didn't waste all of our money interferring all over the world we could afford to provide queality healthcare to our nation, like in Canada. We should be ashamed to be behind Canada in this matter, we think we are better maybe it is time to prove it.
Barack Obama Reaches Out To The American People
"It's Time For something New!"
I concur.
;p
Excuse me Mr. Dean! Great things coming from this President?
He is a great crook, a liar, a murderer and a drug addict and a disgrace for the human race.
i agree about Canada having a better health care thank us American's
