Libby: Guilty
Posted by Adam on March 6, 2007 at 11:56 AM
Scooter Libby has been found guilty of obstruction, perjury, and lying to the FBI:
Count 1: Guilty
Count 2: Guilty
Count 3: Not Guilty
Count 4: Guilty
Count 5: Guilty
UPDATE: Speaker Pelosi's statement:
Today's guilty verdicts are not solely about the acts of one individual.
This trial provided a troubling picture of the inner workings of the Bush Administration. The testimony unmistakably revealed - at the highest levels of the Bush Administration - a callous disregard in handling sensitive national security information and a disposition to smear critics of the war in Iraq.
Governor Howard Dean's statement:
Today the American legal system did something the Bush Administration hasn't, by holding Scooter Libby accountable for his illegal actions. Many unanswered questions remain about the other key Bush advisors who participated in the Administration's efforts to mislead the American people and smear its critics who have yet to be held accountable. Ultimately, the buck stops with President Bush. While he failed to keep his promise to fire the leaker, he should pledge not to pardon Scooter Libby.
It's appalling to think that while President Bush had a high level team in place to sell the Iraq War and viciously smear its critics, it has not given that same attention to plan for postwar Iraq, providing the proper equipment for our troops or ensuring that our troops and veterans receive the care they deserve.
Update II:
Senator Reid's statement:
“I welcome the jury’s verdict. It’s about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics. Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct.”

Get ready for the trolls, they'll be out all night. Make sure your anti-virus and firewalls are all updated, and don't open any links unless you know who the poster is.
CHECK THE SPELLING OF THE USER NAMES CAREFULLY!
good point dpd. hey did sally make a prediction on this item??
bwaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahaha
The jury is in and the evidence showed...that the Vice President was involved in committing a felony and his right hand man lied to protect him.
Do you think Cheney will give even a moment's thought about what he did and how it ruined so many lives? The Bush crime family sticks together even to the pardon we all know Spunky will give to Libby as he leaves office.
Rotten to the core. They start wars with bogus intel, defame those that contradict their lies, out CIA agents for political reasons during the time of war, exploit the situation with war profiteering, don't protect the soldiers they send into the field, and then deny them the veterans benefits they deserve.
It started with a lie and ends with the liars still insisting that they didn't do anything wrong.
Look at the rats running wild in Bldg. 18 at Walter Reed and you tell me those lies don't matter. The rats have been running wild all over the White House, the Pentagon, and Iraq for too long.
93 pilgrims died in Iraq today and 9 of our soldiers killed. How many wounded will end up at Walter Reed? It matters.
Only 1 comment on Freeper, and ZERO on RedState. They are predicting that Fitz will just pack up and go home now. I've NEVER seen Fitz quit. It took over 8 years to nail George Ryan, and he was out of office by the time he was found guilty.
Scooter's lawyer is asking for a NEW TRIAL. Lotsa Luck on that one.
I feel rather bad for saying it,but I`m glad!I`m tired of seeing him walking to the court with that cocky grin on his face. The sad part is the whole bunch of them are guilty and he`s the guy going down.In my eyes they are all traitors to our country.
LisaZ emailed and said (rightly so) (dang, I miss her here!) that Libby's lawyers plan to appeal. True, this ain't over. But on the up-side, the trial and verdict lay bare the fact that the repug party is rife with mobsters who'll do anything for money and power. Like I posted on the Open Thread, there's no want of Repug corruption to go after, either. We need 50 Fitzes to make a dent in this morass of depravity.
I wonder how many democratic candidates/office holders will send me an e-mail asking for donations so law and order continue to prevail?

Oh, Jeepers, look at this article that magically appeared in Freeperland:
(Hillary not prosecuted in 2000) Ray: Hillary Lied About 'Travelgate' (from NewsMax, of course).
Let me reiterate, Trollies,
GO FITZ!, and for the Freepers, HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!! Get over it, you cretins spent 8 years tormenting the Clintons and for what?
The Pugs are already screaming "Activist Judge!" What babies.
Good Morning,
One piece of the puzzle is in place. Let's fill the puzzle blanks and complete the picture.
NO STATUTE OF LIMITATION FOR WAR CRIMES!!
These people can be 90 years old on their death bed and get hauled to jail! There are no countries, no government and no where to hide for war crimes against humanity!
War Crimes against Americans and the World!
1) 180,000+ injured!
2) 20,000+ mamed and unable to return to work!
3) 3,000+ dead!
4) Knowingly lied to Congress, American people, and the World.
5) Trillion ($1,000,000,000,000.00) dollar expenditure.
The argument about presidential pardon is cute.
It's like stating a Presidential pardon from Hitler for Joseph Goebbels, Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Eichmann would be recognized by the rest of the world and everyone should forget about the genocide of Jewish people.
this libby conviction and the neat job done by fitz should bring an interesting patina to the hearings on the politically forced out u.s. attorneys. my what webs we weave....
Hybrid,
I think you may have made the definitive point.
the trip will be in the flip.
I heard Chris Matthews say this might hurt Cheney a bit because Libby worked for him.All I gotta say is,THERE IS A GOD!!!!!!!
The Pugs are already screaming "Activist Judge!" What babies.

I did not witness one single thing the JUDGE in this case did, rather it was the jury that deliberated 10 days and found the POS guilty. and I followed it day by day on firedoglake.
Boy, these sore loser Republicans had better stock up on tissues, because they are in for a lot more depression.
Give him the max, unless he tells the truth about the White House coverup.
The sad thing is that Bush is going to parden him anyway before he leaves office, for being one of the good ole boys of his closet gang. All his loyal friends will be sent home "At Will"!
Howard's about to speak on The Ed Schultz show. You can google it and hear....
Ha Ha Ha !
((((( MERRY FITZMAS )))))
What you in the darkness , shall be brought to light.......
Cheneys NEXT!
Chris Matthews brought up an important point that is often overlooked....that Libby was an Assistant to the President.
How much was Bush involved? And why is he being allowed to curise under the radar by the MSM and Special Prosecutor?
I think they are all protecting Spunky. He was in this up to the gills. You just know the frat boy would want to be part of any prank that would stick it to Wilson for questioning his Excellency the Incompetent and his useless war.
Libby wasn't just protecting Cheney. He was protecting the one who could pardon them all and who is after all in this own words The Decider.
Somebody set this thing into motion. Who decided?
We've been keeping our eye off the ball. When you start looking at it for this new perspective, there are all kinds of new opportunities of investigation. And now we control Capitol Hill.
This isn't over.
Sandy --
It SO isn't over.
‘Where’s Rove? Where are these other guys?’
Juror says Libby was guilty but was set up to take the fall in Plame probe

The jurors who convicted I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby believed Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff was set up as a fall guy, a juror said Tuesday, but they had no alternative to finding him guilty in the leak of the identity of a classified CIA operative.
“I will say there was a tremendous amount of sympathy for Mr. Libby on the jury,” said the juror, Dennis Collins, a former newspaper reporter.
“It was said a number of times: ‘What are we doing with this guy here? Where’s Rove? Where are these other guys?’ ” Collins said, referring to Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove, who was identified during the investigation as one of the senior officials who revealed the identity of the operative, Valerie Plame, to journalists.

Rev,
I think it's time to go back and see what Pinky and The Brain said to Fizgerald even though it wasn't under oath. Is there a transcript that has been made public?
Did Cheney give testimony separate from Bush? I know he was there kicking Bush under the table when he answered questions.
While Fizgerald might have to have an airtight case to strike, jounalists don't. In fact, it now seems that rumors and inuendos has become the media specialty. Give them a little rope and who knows who they might find at the end of it?
If the transcripts haven't been made public. Maybe it's time for the media to go after them.
Scooter ... but Cheney is the real criminal.
Cheney yes and many more! These guys don`t operate independently. They come up with strategies and try to coordinate.
W said it best, when he told Bob Woodward. "Son, In the White House we create our own reality."
Cheney yes and many more! These guys don`t operate independently. They come up with strategies and try to coordinate.
****
And Rove and the liar Bush knew all about it all along and even approved the leak.
The real tragedy is that no one has yet been convicted for doing the leaking.
Good news but lets not stop with Libby and let's pledge to continue the investigation and trials until the culprits responsible for this travesty have been punished. President Bush could most certainly not protect them.
These men and women misappropriated federal funds by sending them to Iraq at a time when we were facing a truly dangerous foe elsewhere. This foe was responsible for attacks on Americans and American interests that Iraqis would not even consider prior to the March 2003 invasion of their nation. Our Middle Eastern problem is then twice as bad because some of our fellow Americans chose to misrepresent the facts and for some unknown reason to divert the bulk of our nations budget into Iraq.
Countdown With Keith Olberman is On Now!
Let's watch!
:)
Count 1: Guilty
Count 2: Guilty
Count 3: Not Guilty
Count 4: Guilty
Count 5: Guilty
libby is a good fellow fall guy. he took 4 out of 5 hits for dick and george jr. don't feel sorry for libby ... his payback is a pardon. the net result, dick and george jr have time to line up more scapegoats. tony snowjob will springle the cover.
Sandy,
the transcripts are here
"No decision in the Irving Libby trial - that means hung jury and mistrial and Libby skates because they are not gonna do it again.
Posted by Honorable*Sally* on February 27, 2007 at 09:49 PM"
oops! wrong again...hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
see ya all in the morning and i already had my ice cream.
that's it, that's it... fitz is going to jail....hahahahahahaha. you moron. you were wrong, you lost, you know nothing...AGAIN!
Who is next?
Bush?
Cheney?
Why the Democrats won't impeach Bush???
I don't understand them!
My big question:
Why did Libby think Tim Russert would lie for him. And why didn't Russert lie?
They have let scape the goat, and offered their sacrifice to public opinion.
Now the Bushiato is hoping that the whole thing will quietly go away, and nobody will look further.
This incident isn't about Iraq, therefore it would not be going back on Pelosi's ill-thought-out statement that there would be no impeachment about Iraq.
We need to impeach Cheney, next.
Of course he's ailing with a blood clot on his leg and all, so we should feel compassionate toward him. Yeah, right!
We need to feel as compassionate toward him as he felt toward the US soldiers and Iraqi civilians that their War of Lies murdered!
As compassionate as they have felt toward Katrina victims!
As compassionate as their broken and underfunded system has been toward our wounded soldiers and Marines!
Cheney next!
IMPEACH! INVESTIGATE!! INDICT!!!
Amazing - this 'writer' accusing liberals of double standards.
Which double standard do you prefer. Concealing the truth about sex - or concealing the truth and leading your nation into war - costing us over 3000 soldiers so far. How many dead soldiers will make you forget Clinton's errors?
guess it was okay for President Clinton to lie under oath, huh? Double standard liberals as usual.

"‘Where’s Rove? Where are these other guys?’
Juror says Libby was guilty but was set up to take the fall in Plame probe"
