Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

John McCain, John Hagee and Hurricane Katrina

Posted by Matt Ortega on April 24, 2008 at 09:36 AM

Think Progress:

On his radio show yesterday, right-wing talker Dennis Prager asked Hagee to respond to "the various charges made against him" in a fact sheet put out by the Democratic National Committee. Asked about his comments on Hurricane Katrina, Hagee said "the topic of that day was cursing and blessing":
HAGEE: Yes. The topic of that day was cursing and blessing. ... What happened in New Orleans looked like the curse of God, in time if New Orleans recovers and becomes the pristine city it can become it may in time be called a blessing. But at this time it's called a curse.

Prager followed up by asking if all natural disasters are a result of "the divine hand" and if there is "any natural disaster that is not the result of sin?" Hagee responded by saying "it's a result of God's permissible will" and "that there was going to be a massive homosexual rally there the following Monday," which he said "was sin."

Think Progress' Matt Corley has a rather prescient question for John McCain, who visits New Orleans on the "Places Republicans Never Visit" Tour.

Given the fact that McCain will be in New Orleans tomorrow, will reporters ask whether he agrees with Hagee belief that the devastated city was cursed because of a gay pride parade? We'll be watching.

It hurts my head when the Republicans go after Obama's former Rev. Don't you think it' s time we start going after these religious right screw balls and call them out as well?

John McCain was having birthday cake with bush on the first day of the storm. I love the DNC's new commerical but it needs to be aired on regular non cable channels to get more bang for your buck. Preferrably during What About Jim. As of yesterday I had two, non informed people I know tell me they thought McCain was good, they don't watch cable news.

Bush can ignore destruction all around him while he massages his will on the people. Look a McCain!

Bush manipulated the Stock Market by turning in a sale that wasn't really a sale and as the Stock rose he sold his borrowed Stock from that same Company and made Millions of Dollars. Then he bought the Ball Team and made Millions more.

You all knew this and some of you voted for him and others stood quiet while he manipulated the system and was GIVEN the Presidency. Why couldn't we force the Supreme Court members we wanted out of office?? Why did we stand quiet while he broke law after law and had 10's of Thousands of people killed? Do you have any idea what that has done to the people?

Now you are just as Fanciful about OBama. You know he doesn't have the experience to run a Nation. You know he hasn't overcome the defeats that Hillary has. You know someone else is writting his plans and he is just reading them off a prompter. Many other things I could mention but the fact remains he will have someone else running the Nation, while he smiles and gives you a ML King type speach. Hillary has had all the things that OBama hasn't. Think and vote the way God would vote.

I think barack will run this country just fine. Considering the fact that his funding has come in from people just like me, he doesn't have to answer to big business. His life experience is huge. He experienced more as a child than hillary has her whole life. He saw poverty in Indonesia as a child and dispises it as an adult. He is the one to change the way business is conducted in Washington. For a guy running his first national campaign, I'd say he's doing pretty well, with no previous experience running a national campaign. He will be the nominee and the president. I can't wait.

oneforall,

I agree that Bush is a idiot and I couldn't believe some people in this country were stupid enough to buy Bush's baloney. We can't get rid of the Supreme Court justices since those positions are lifetime positions. The only way to get rid of a Supreme Court justice is if the judge themselves decide to retire or they die in office. But however the President is the one that appoints these justices. But I say when either Hillary or Barack win the White House, we will find out everything about what Bush and his terrible regime have done not only to this country. But on so many other things, by the end of the investigation. Bush and Cheney are looking at doing some serious and hard time either way. Because if they don't punish Bush and Cheney here, then the International Court in the Netherlands will get them for what these two have done in Iraq.

A few months before the last Congressional elections Bill O'Reilly and the rest of the Fox crowd started going against Bush. That was a clear leading-indicator on the results of the elections.

Are we seeing a similar leading indicator now. The Chief Officer of the Obama Headquarters, Keith Oberman at MSNBC, for the first time had anything negative at all to say of Senator Obama. Does this foretell events to follow in the Primary contest. CNN, the Obama propaganda machinery for the first time had positive things to say about Senator Clinton. Are we looking a concession speech from Senator Obama on May 6.
Will Senator Obama concede the race to Senator Clinton if he onmly has single digit lead in NC and loses IN.

The way Senator Obama has handled the Rev. Wright issue shows Senator Obama doesn't have the judgement needed to manage the political process. If he cannot handle this situation, how will he handle situations that would be a lot more complex in a Presidency. Senator Obama has put himself in a bind; he will have problems with the Black voters if he gets too aggressive with Rev Wright. He will dig himself into a bigger role if doesn't say anything about Rev Wrigth.

He doesn't seem to have the judgement on the words to use to express his opinions. What if he misuses words in Isreal when taking about the Saudis (both US allies) like he did regarding small town PA at San Francisco fund raiser.
