Location: Tacoma, WA
My Story: My roots are in Tacoma, WA. I'm the son of a union man and a homemaker, both staunch democrats; I guess it's in my blood. Dad was an atheist and Mom a Quaker, and as a result I was raised to never follow blindly and to always think for myself. I still live in the land of green and gray, surrounded by the water, mountains, and rain forests that I love. It's easy in a place like this, where deer nap in my back yard on warm afternoons and eagles ride wind currents in great circles high over my house, to remain tuned to nature and what it means to be responsible stewards of the environment. What passions give my life substance and meaning? Writing, hiking, creative cooking, reading great fiction, traveling the real Mexico, watching indy films, teaching ESL to immigrants, and enjoying life with my wonderful if not unconventional family. What pisses me off? Fundementalists (of any religion) imposing the rule of law on others. What REALLY pisses me off? The Christian religious right because they are the American Taliban. Issues I'm particularly passionate about are: the environment, human and civil rights, separation of church and state, and getting us out of this riduculous war. Besides the Dem Party, my memberships include: The Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy, Earth Justice, ACLU, Freedom from Religion Foundation, American Atheists, and Pacific Northwest Writer's Association.
