My Story: As chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), a member of Senate Leadership, and a forceful advocate for my home state of California, I am a proud leader of progressive politics in the United States Senate. I became a United States Senator in January 1993 after 10 years of service in the House of Representatives. Elected to a third term in 2004, I received more than 6.9 million votes, the highest total for any Senate candidate in American history.
