Democrats Improve Overperformance Record After Sweeping Victories in South Carolina and Mississippi Local Elections

Last night, Democrats in South Carolina and Mississippi clinched victories, improving Democrats’ special election winning and overperformance record to a whopping 24 elections in 2025 alone. In South Carolina, 24-year-old Keishan Scott overperformed the top of the 2024 ticket by 36 points, and in deep-red Mississippi, Democrats won mayoral elections across the state.

As Trump and his Republican allies peddle a disastrous agenda that sets the country backward and rips away the rights and hard-earned benefits of working Americans to enrich billionaires, voters are saying enough is enough at the ballot box.

In response to yesterday’s Democratic electoral overperformances, DNC Deputy Executive Director Libby Schneider released the following statement:

“Last night, South Carolina and Mississippi Democratic candidates dominated their Republican opponents to secure critical wins that strengthen Democrats’ power in these Republican-held states. Voters are fed up with Republicans’ disastrous policies that put them last and are jumping at the chance to enact change at the voting booth: electing strong, qualified Democratic leaders who will fight for the people they represent. These results underscore a clear rebuke we’re seeing again and again against Trump and any Republican who is ready to co-sign his unpopular, billionaire-first agenda. While Republicans continue to bend the knee to Trump and his billionaire backers, actively making the lives of Americans worse, Democrats will continue to fight for policies that put them first by winning elections across the country and up and down the ballot .”

In South Carolina, Democrat Keishan Scott won a landslide victory in South Carolina’s House District 50 race.
