DNC on AANHPI Heritage Month

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, DNC Vice Chair Tammy Duckworth, and DNC AAPI Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong issued the following joint statement on the start of AANHPI Heritage Month:

This AANHPI Heritage Month, we honor the many, varied contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders to the United States. Time and time again, it’s made clear the stories and work of AANHPI communities are indispensable to the history of our nation.

The Democratic Party is proud of the ways the Biden-Harris Administration lifts up AANHPI communities. From the historic election of Vice President Harris, to the passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act spearheaded by Senator Mazie Hirono and Representative Grace Meng, to the American Rescue Plan that lifted families from poverty and helped small businesses stay open, to the continued efforts to bring down costs, the administration remains committed to building a government that reflects AANHPIs and addresses their everyday needs.

While this is a moment for celebration, it is also critical we recognize the real and increased threat of violence the AANHPI community faces. The Democratic Party is committed to fighting back against racism and xenophobia, and we will always fight to protect AANHPI communities from senseless hate.

Together, we know that diversity makes us a stronger party and a stronger nation. Together, we know that AANHPI voters will be the margin of victory once again for Democrats this year. This month and every month, we will celebrate, uplift, and advocate for AANHPI communities throughout the United States.
