DNC Statement on Pride Month
June 1, 2025
DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Secretary Jason Rae issued the following joint statement marking the start of Pride Month:
“More than five decades ago, the LGBTQ+ community took a stand at the Stonewall Inn, sparking a movement that’s still going strong today. From that moment of protest came decades of progress — hard-won rights, visibility, and pride. In 2024 alone, we saw more than 750 anti-LGBTQ+ proposals across the country. Make no mistake, some politicians are still trying to pull us backwards and take away people’s basic rights.
“But the fight isn’t over—and we’re not going anywhere. Democrats have long made LGBTQ+ equality a priority, taking real steps to protect people from discrimination in health care, housing, and more. As some push hate and fear, we’ll keep pushing for freedom, dignity, and safety for everyone — including our trans community. This Pride Month and every month, we stand with LGBTQ+ people in the fight for justice.”
