MAGA Hot Mic: West Virginia GOP State Senator Eric Tarr

Eric Tarr: “If you got a burning building and you can save almost all the children but not all of them — would you do it? I’d burn the building.”

In our continuing series of highlighting Republicans’ extreme, anti-choice agenda, today’s MAGA Hot Mic features West Virginia GOP State Senator Eric Tarr.

This week, while the West Virginia Senate was debating an extreme bill that would almost completely ban abortion in the state, Tarr pushed for a total ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Washington Post: “The West Virginia legislature Tuesday passed a bill to prohibit nearly all abortions, making it the second state to pass a new ban since the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade in June.”

Reuters: “State Senator Eric Tarr, a Republican, said he thought the bill should have outlawed abortion at conception and not made exceptions for victims of rape or incest, which he views as punishing a baby for the sins of its father.”

Tarr said that he would oppose the bill if exceptions were included, because anything short of a total ban wouldn’t go far enough in his twisted view. He made callous remarks comparing abortion to a “burning building” and said he was “astounded” that exceptions were even being discussed.

Eric Tarr: “I’ve heard arguments that, if you got a burning building and you can save almost all the children but not all of them — would you do it? I’d burn the building… I’m astounded that we have to have this debate.”

Let’s be perfectly clear: Republican lawmakers across the country are pushing for total abortion bans with no exceptions for rape or incest. America simply cannot afford this radical, anti-choice agenda.
