ON THIS DAY: Trump ‘Proudly’ ‘Terminated’ Roe v. Wade, Putting Women’s Lives in Danger

Today marks the third anniversary of Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices ripping away women’s longstanding fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies. Dobbs v. Jackson paved the way for Trump and his Republican allies to launch attacks on women’s reproductive health and enact abortion bans nationwide.

In Trump’s second term, reproductive health care is at even greater risk as Trump pushes his dangerous backdoor abortion ban through Congress and emboldens Republicans in legislatures across the country to further limit women’s access to critical health care.

On the third anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

“Three years ago today, Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices fulfilled Republicans’ decadeslong quest to rip away women’s reproductive freedoms. In the years since, Republicans have enacted draconian, total abortion bans, restricted birth control access, and slashed health care funding. Because Donald Trump ‘proudly’ overturned Roe. v Wade, women are in danger across the country. Now, in Trump’s second term, he’s taking his anti-choice agenda even further — from preventing pregnant women from receiving lifesaving treatment in medical emergencies to threatening medication abortion access. Trump is sticking to his Project 2025 blueprint, and the next step is a total nationwide abortion ban. Thanks to Trump, fundamental freedoms are on the ballot in every election in 2025, 2026 and beyond.”

Three years ago today, Donald Trump “proudly” overturned Roe v. Wade and claimed credit for extreme abortion bans across the country.

Trump: “I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of … Roe v. Wade.”

Trump: “For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it, and I’m proud to have done it. … Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”

The Trump administration overturned the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to ensure pregnant women can access emergency medical care in the face of extreme abortion bans.

Washington Post: “The Trump administration has rescinded Biden-era guidance requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions when necessary to stabilize a patient’s health — even in states that ban the procedure. …

“The Biden administration had issued the guidance in July 2022, weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the national right to abortion, to clarify that a federal law guaranteeing emergency care for patients in peril took precedence over state abortion bans. It later sued Idaho in federal court to enforce penalties against hospitals that disregarded the federal policy to adhere to the state’s strict abortion ban.”

Under his Project 2025 agenda, Trump is attacking women’s reproductive rights and trying to ban abortion nationwide while invading the privacy of millions of American women.

“By describing a fetus as a person from conception, Trump has legitimized fetal personhood. … The legal language employed by fetal personhood also effectively categorizes any person receiving an abortion at any stage as a murderer.”
