Trump on Six-Week Nationwide Abortion Ban: “Looking at All Options”

Donald Trump just can’t help himself – he continues to double down on his extreme anti-choice record and brag about his role in appointing anti-choice justices to the Supreme Court who overturned Roe v. Wade, paving the way for a nationwide abortion ban. In a new interview with The Messenger, Trump committed to consider a cruel, nationwide abortion ban before many women know they’re pregnant, and once again bragged about his work paving the way for this sort of legislation.

When asked if he would sign a six-week abortion ban, Trump promised to look at all options.

The Messenger: What do you think? Is it too harsh for you?

Trump: “I’m looking at all alternatives. I’m looking at many alternatives. But I was able to get us to the table by terminating Roe v. Wade. That’s the most important thing that’s ever happened for the pro-life movement.”

The Messenger: Would you sign a six week abortion ban or not?

Trump: “I’m looking at all [options].”

This comes on the heels of Trump declaring last week he was “proud” and “honored” to overturn Roe and pave the way for MAGA extremists across the country to ban abortion.

Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. And now what’s happening, and I see it all over, deals are being made, deals are going to be made. And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

In 2016, Trump promised to nominate Supreme Court justices who would “automatically” overturn Roe – and he did exactly that. Now, Trump and his team repeatedly brags that no one has done more for the anti-choice movement than him.

2016 Trump: “Well, if we put another two or perhaps three justices on, that’s really what’s going to be — that will happen. And that’ll happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court.”

2023 Trump: “We got it back to the states. We did the Roe v. Wade thing, which we’ve been trying to get it done for 50 years. I got it done. I appointed incredible justices and judges all over — 300 federal judges and three justices. And I was able to do things that nobody else was able to do, and we’ll get something done where everyone is going to be very satisfied.”

CNN: “‘There has been no bigger advocate for the [pro-life] movement than President Trump,’ said Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung in a statement to CNN.”
