WATCH: After the CFPB Put $21 Billion Back Into Americans’ Pockets, Republicans Double Down on Gutting the Agency

With the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s successful decadelong record of fighting for consumers, it’s no surprise that Americans overwhelmingly support the CFPB and its mission

Despite the monumental $21 billion the CFPB has put back into Americans’ pockets, Republicans are doubling down on gutting the agency — a move that would mean a massive giveaway for deep-pocketed financial predators and fraudsters.

Once again, Republicans are putting their billionaire donors’ bottom line over protecting their constituents.

WATCH: Senator Elizabeth Warren, working with Senate Democrats, is fighting to protect the CFPB — a wildly successful agency that has protected Americans from scammers and fraudsters and put over $21 billion back in consumers’ pockets.

Senator Elizabeth Warren: “The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the financial watchdog to keep people from getting cheated on credit cards and mortgages and Venmo and payday loans and a zillion other transactions. When this financial cop can’t do its job, there is no one else in the federal government to pick up the slack. The CFPB has returned over $21 billion to more than 205 million Americans who were cheated by big banks and giant corporations. That is why this agency is popular across the country. But from the beginning, Republicans in Congress have been trying to kill it, and now they want to slash the CFPB’s [funding] … not to save working people money, but to make it easier for corporations to trick and trap millions of people. Scammers love this Republican move. I urge my colleagues to vote yes to support the CFPB, the little agency that fights for all Americans.”

Instead of voting to keep empowering the CFPB to put money in Americans’ pockets, Senate Republicans unanimously voted to slash the CFPB’s funding and protect scam artists, big banks, and mega-corporations.

Senate Cloakroom: “Not agreed to, 47-53: Motion to waive the Budget Act with respect to Warren amendment #2414 in relation to Cal. #107, H.R.1, One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”
