❌ End the Department of Education, gutting federal support for public education.
“Federal education policy should be limited and, ultimately, the federal Department of Education should be eliminated.” [Project 2025, p. 319]
❌ Cut investments for nearly two-thirds of public schools serving children from low-income households.
“Title I is the largest portion of federal taxpayer spending under this federal education law, and the section provides additional taxpayer resources to schools or groups of schools in lower income areas… Over a 10-year period, the federal spending should be phased out and states should assume decision-making control over how to provide a quality education to children from low-income families.” [Project 2025, p. 350]
❌ Eliminate Head Start, which has provided early education and child care investments for nearly 40 million children from low-income households since 1965.
“Eliminate the Head Start program.” [Project 2025, p. 482]
❌ Reverse the Biden-Harris Administration’s student loan debt relief efforts, which have already helped nearly five million borrowers and made higher education more accessible.
“…the current Administration has drastically expanded BDR, CSLD, and PSLF loan forgiveness… The new Administration must quickly commence negotiated rulemaking and propose that the department rescind these regulations.” [Project 2025, p. 332]
“The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which prioritizes government and public sector work over private sector employment, should be terminated.” [Project 2025, p. 354]
❌ Reject free school meals for students in need.
“Reject efforts to create universal free school meals.” [Project 2025, p. 303]
❌ Funnel taxpayer dollars out of public schools to private and charter schools that don’t serve all students.
“…every parent should have the option to direct his or her child’s share of education funding through an education savings account (ESA), funded overwhelmingly by state and local taxpayers” [Project 2025, p. 319]
“The new Administration must take immediate steps to rescind the new requirements and lessen the federal restrictions on charter schools.” [Project 2025, p. 331]
❌ Give tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy and big corporations on the backs of working families.
“The Treasury should work with Congress to simplify the tax code by enacting a simple two-rate individual tax system of 15 percent and 30 percent that eliminates most deductions, credits and exclusions … The corporate income tax rate should be reduced to 18 percent.” [Project 2025, p. 696]
