TOMORROW: DNC Unity Reform Commission to meet in DC

 

WASHINGTON – On Friday, May 5, the first meeting of the DNC Unity Reform Commission kicks off at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC. The first of several meetings of the commission, this weekend’s sessions will provide an overview of the commission’s goals, its purview, and informational presentations to provide the commission’s membership with the necessary background for the work ahead.

 

At Friday’s opening session, DNC Chair Tom Perez will offer opening remarks before turning over the program to Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon and Vice Chair Larry Cohen who will moderate a series of presentations and discussions on the following topics:

 

Friday:

       DNC’s Legal Authority in Presidential Nominating Matters

       Historical Overview of Democratic Presidential Nominating Process

       Discussion of the Party and Voter’s Interest in the Presidential Nominating Process

 

Saturday:

       Building a Strong Democratic Party & Being More Competitive in Elections

       Mobilizing Voters at All Levels

       Empowering Grassroots Participation in the Democratic Party

Created during the 2016 Democratic National Convention, the commission will recommend improvements to ensure the presidential nomination process is accessible, transparent, and inclusive.

 

The Unity Reform Commission will meet over the course of this year and must issue its report and recommendations to the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee no later than January 1, 2018.

 

The Unity Reform Commission is made up of 21 members selected by Sec. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and DNC Chair Tom Perez.
