WASHINGTON – Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced today that Aaron Weinberg has joined the DNC as the Director of Jewish Engagement. In this position, Aaron will be charged with implementing a targeted outreach strategy to engage Jewish Americans across the country in support of the Democratic party and its candidates.
Weinberg will build on the Democratic National Committee’s extensive and successful outreach to the Jewish community in 2012, which played a key role in the reelection of President Barack Obama. That program included launching Jewish Community Leadership Councils in battleground states throughout the country, engaging Rabbinic and community leaders, and mobilizing both youth and seniors to help educate voters and get them to the polls. This election’s outreach will also focus on strengthening ties and building on the historic relationship between the Democratic Party and the Jewish community, the most Democratic voting bloc in America.
“Jewish Americans know from our history that we cannot stand idly by, particularly in light of the ugly rhetoric, vitriol and even religious intolerance permeating this year’s presidential election,” said DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “The Jewish community understands what’s at stake for our economy, cares deeply about protecting health care access for all and unfettered women’s and civil rights, values having a fully functioning democracy with a full Supreme Court, and strongly supports the U.S.-Israel relationship. I’m looking forward to working with Aaron in this endeavor to help keep our country moving forward.”
Nearly three out of four Jewish voters have favored the Democratic candidate in recent presidential elections and the community is strongly represented in competitive states in the general election.
“We’re proud to have Aaron join our team, and know his experience with the Jewish community will make a tremendous difference in mobilizing voters to help elect a Democratic President,” added Marilyn Davis, the DNC’s Director of Community Engagement.
“I’m honored to join the Democratic National Committee and strive to further the legacy of Jewish Americans who built partnerships across the nation in advancement of progressive priorities, such as Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, and those who fought for a more equal and just America, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., recognizing that each and every person was created B’tzelem Elohim, in the Divine image,” said Weinberg. “I call on each and every American Jew to answer the call of the 2016 election to stand up and echo the biblical imperative of Hineni, here I am, as we stand up together for our values— Jewish and Democratic.”
Aaron previously served as a Jewish Outreach Fellow for the District of Columbia on the Obama for America 2012 campaign. He has a master’s degree from the Hornstein Program in Jewish Professional Leadership at Brandeis and completed his masters field work at Makom—an initiative of the Jewish Agency. Aaron has interned at the Shalom Hartman Institute, has been involved with J Street U, was a delegate to the World Zionist Congress, and is a Bronfman Youth Fellow.
