Does Susan Collins Still Feel ‘Vindication’ for Her Kavanaugh Vote?

DNC Women’s Media Director Elizabeth Renda released the following statement calling on Senator Susan Collins to answer for her deciding vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court after Kavanaugh ignored precedent and voted to allow a Louisiana anti-abortion law to take effect:

“Let’s be perfectly clear — Brett Kavanaugh’s dissent of the Supreme Court’s decision to block the unconstitutional Louisiana TRAP law from taking effect represents an all-out war on Roe v. Wade, and Senator Collins is directly responsible for his place on the court. Kavanaugh is so eager to overturn Roe that he was willing to allow a lower court to effectively overrule Supreme Court abortion precedent in order to enforce a law that could have shut down all but one of the three remaining abortion clinics in Louisiana.

“The dissent shows exactly how far Kavanaugh is willing to go to take away a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. Maine voters will never forget that Collins cast a pivotal, deciding vote for Kavanaugh’s appointment, wilfully ignoring both the judge’s long anti-choice record and Donald Trump’s pledge to appoint justices to the court who would overturn Roe. With Kavanaugh on the court, Roe v. Wade is more at risk than ever before, and Collins is to blame. Democrats will never stop fighting for women to have the fundamental right to make decisions about their own bodies with their doctors and will continue to hold Collins accountable for putting women’s lives at risk.”
