As Trump and Vance’s war with Iran continues with no end in sight, the war has cost taxpayers as much as $100 billion and consumers $150 billion
Today marks 30 days since Donald Trump and JD Vance signed their weak and shaky “deal” with Iran. The deal has since fallen apart and the war continues with no end in sight as the U.S. military continues to launch new strikes against Iran, the situation around the Strait of Hormuz is “back to the worst case scenario,” and Trump and Vance have presented no plan to bring an end to the war – with Trump even hinting at a larger military campaign, saying this week, “sometimes you need a ground campaign.”
Pentagon officials are now estimating that Trump and Vance’s war has cost American taxpayers $100 billion – four times the original $25 billion estimate – and cost consumers nearly $150 billion, about $1,100 per household since the war started. The taxpayer cost of the war could cover a three-year extension of enhanced ACA subsidies, a year of healthcare for 10.8 million Americans; a year of childcare for over 6 million kids; or a $31,250 raise for every public school teacher.
In response, DNC Spokesperson Jaelin O’Halloran has released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and JD Vance have dragged America into another endless war with no exit plan. After their weak and shaky deal with Iran collapsed, it’s crystal clear that Trump and Vance have no way out of the war they started. Meanwhile, working families are stretching their budgets even further to afford skyrocketing prices on gas and groceries as Trump and Vance endlessly spend billions of taxpayer dollars on their war after Republicans claimed they couldn’t afford to pay for healthcare or food assistance. Americans are fed up – and voters are going to hold Republicans accountable in November.”
