At the Department of Housing and Human Development,an estimated 87 percent of the agency’s 7,800 employees would be sent home.
-
Tens of thousands of border patrol officers, Secret Service agents and airport-security officers would work without pay.
-
Employees at the Treasury Department and the Environmental Protection Agency would be furloughed.
-
Analysis of threats from terrorism and storms could cease.
-
Distribution of money designated for rebuilding after natural disasters would be stalled.
-
Routine safety inspections of food and pharmaceutical plants would stop.
