DNC on National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls
May 5, 2020
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:
“Every year, Native women face unconscionable violence. Some women and girls are beaten, sexually assaulted, and murdered. Others disappear without a trace. As we confront the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot lose sight of these horrors. We cannot forget about all those who are still living with abuse in their homes and on their reservations, especially right now as so many of us are working from home. We need action and we need it now. We must confront the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women with legislation that addresses the jurisdictional gaps in the law. As Democrats, we stand with Native women and tribes and say unequivocally: No more stolen sisters. No more stolen daughters. No more stolen mothers.”
