Trump’s Dangerous Recommendations Put Americans At Risk
May 19, 2020
Yesterday, Trump once again promoted an unproven coronavirus treatment that his own administration warns could put some people at greater risk. This is only the latest example of Trump ignoring advice from experts in favor of his own dangerous and uninformed recommendations.
HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE: Trump promoted hydroxychloroquine, which health experts and the FDA warn is an unproven treatment that could cause serious heart problems.
CNN: “Trump says he is taking hydroxychloroquine though health experts question its effectiveness”
New York Times: “President Trump said on Monday that he had been taking hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug the Food and Drug Administration warned could cause serious heart problems for coronavirus patients.”
BLEACH: Trump dangerously suggested injecting disinfectant as a coronavirus treatment.
TRUMP: “I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”
CNN: “Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Sunday that his state has received ‘hundreds of calls’ from residents asking about the effectiveness of ingesting disinfectants to treat coronavirus after President Donald Trump dangerously suggested that it could be a possible treatment for the deadly virus.”
SUNLIGHT: Trump suggested that sunlight could help treat coronavirus, which his own task force clearly contradicted as being wrong.
TRUMP: “So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just a very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn’t been checked because of the testing. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that, too.”
CNN: “Trump then asked Birx if she ‘ever heard of the heat and the light’ having an impact on viruses. She responded, ‘Not as a treatment,’ before Trump asked her again to look into it.”
