DNC Statement on Cruz in New Hampshire Today
September 8, 2022
As Ted Cruz heads to New Hampshire today to campaign for NH-01 candidate Karoline Leavitt, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“The extreme agenda Ted Cruz and Karoline Leavitt are pushing would be a disaster for New Hampshire families: restricting reproductive rights, opposing measures to lower the cost of energy and health care, and putting special interests ahead of working families.”
Cruz views the repeal of Roe v. Wade as a “massive victory” and supports banning abortion, even in the case of rape. Leavitt has criticized New Hampshire’s abortion restrictions for not being strict enough.
MSNBC: “Cruz makes his case against an abortion rape exception.”
Real America’s Voice: Leavitt: “It’s a ban on abortion after 24 weeks. I certainly would like to see it earlier”
Catholic Current Podcast: Leavitt: “I am proudly pro life, and I look forward to voting that way in Congress.”
Cruz voted against extending lower health care costs and allowing Medicare to directly negotiate the price of prescription drugs for the first time, siding with Big Pharma over New Hampshire families.
The New York Times: “The package would cap the out-of-pocket costs that seniors pay annually for prescription drugs at $2,000, and would ensure that seniors have access to free vaccines.”
CNBC: “Medicare is poised to renegotiate the prices of some of its most expensive drugs through a historic expansion of its power, which could reduce costs for many seniors as well as federal spending on its prescription drug plan.”
Seacoast Current: Leavitt supports a free market for healthcare as she believes it would create transparency in pricing and bring costs down with competition. “The healthcare system is a mess. There’s no doubt about it. It’s the only system in the history of the world where you can shop for a service or a product or a good and not know the price of it until after you’ve purchased that product, service, or good,” Leavitt said.
What’s more, Cruz helped block a proposal by Senate Democrats to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month for millions of Americans on private insurance.
The Washington Post: “Republicans Block Cap On Insulin Costs For Millions Of Patients”
Cruz also voted against ensuring that corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in taxes, even though Americans making less than $400,000 a year will not see increased audit rates or higher tax rates.
Associated Press: “Nothing in the bill raises taxes on people earning less than $400,000… There are no individual tax rate increases for anyone in the bill, experts say.”
CNBC: “IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig said the [IRA] funding would not increase audits of households making less than $400,000 per year.”
