MAGA Hot Mic: The Michigan GOP Ticket
October 4, 2022
Matt DePerno: “[The overturn of Roe v. Wade] would not have happened without [Donald Trump], who had the courage to appoint and stand with three conservative justices and put them on the Supreme Court!”
Today’s MAGA Hot Mic honors fall on the extreme, anti-choice Michigan Republican statewide ticket — three of whom rallied this past weekend with Donald J. Trump.
First up in the Michigan Republican statewide slate is gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon, who has called for a draconian abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. Dixon even said that the incestual rape of a 14-year-old was a “perfect example” to defend her dangerous plan to ban abortion.
NPR: “Dixon is fervently against abortion rights and made recent headlines after responding to a question about the hypothetical rape of a 14-year-old by a family member being a ‘perfect example’ of why abortion should be banned.”
Next up is Kristina Karamo, the GOP nominee for secretary of state. Karamo has made callous, insensitive remarks comparing abortion to “child sacrifice” in a 2020 podcast.
CNN: “CNN’s KFile discovered troubling comments Michigan’s Trump-backed secretary of state nominee Kristina Karamo made about abortions, comparing them to ‘child sacrifice’ in her podcast.”
But Michigan Republicans’ extremism doesn’t end there. The Republican nominee for attorney general, Matt DePerno, has already previewed his dangerous plan to ban Plan B — even comparing it to fentanyl, a synthetic opioid drug. And standing next to Trump at the rally last weekend, he directly credited Trump for the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Matt DePerno: “You gotta figure out how you ban the pills from the state… You have to stop it at the border. It’d be no different than fentanyl.”
Matt DePerno: “Recently, Roe v. Wade was overturned. And that would not have happened without the man standing next to me [Donald Trump], who had the courage to appoint and stand with three conservative justices and put them on the Supreme Court!”
The Michigan Republican statewide ticket is extreme, anti-choice, and completely beholden to Donald Trump. Michiganders simply cannot afford their dangerous agenda.
