Constitutional Conservatives Have Nothing to Say About Trump Call for Ripping Up the Constitution
December 5, 2022
On the heels of their resounding silence after Donald Trump broke bread with antisemites, Republicans have nearly all gone silent and refused to say anything about their party leader calling for terminating the Constitution to give himself power.
Trump made clear once again just how extreme today’s MAGA Republican Party is, and yet the GOP has been near silent on Trump’s dangerous comments.
Washington Post: “GOP lawmakers largely silent after Trump suggests ‘termination’ of Constitution”
Washington Post: “‘A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,’ Trump posted on the Truth Social platform. ‘Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!’”
But the GOP continues to stoop to new lows: Some Republicans — including those who fashion themselves as moderates — are refusing to rule out supporting Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign for president despite his completely un-American remarks.
Daily Beast: “Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) told ABC’s This Week host George Stephanopoulos that he would support whoever the Republican nominee is in 2024, even if Trump is that person.”
David Joyce: “Well, you know, [Trump] says a lot of things but that doesn’t mean it’s ever going to happen.”
The continued silence by Republican leaders, including his potential 2024 competitors, makes clear that this MAGA Party is completely beholden to Trumpism and his extreme, un-American positions.
