DNC Statement on Two Years Since January 6 Insurrection
January 6, 2023
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on two years since the January 6, 2021 attack on our democracy:
“Today marks two years since the horrific attack on the seat of American democracy. As we reflect on the horrible violence that took place that day, we remember the lives lost, and honor the members of law enforcement who bravely defended the U.S. Capitol, and the representatives and senators who saw out their constitutional duty to make sure Americans’ voices were heard even as their lives were endangered. And we thank the bipartisan members of the January 6 committee who worked to uncover the truth of all that happened leading up to and on that day. Above all else though, we recommit ourselves to the work of defending our democracy.
“Sadly, the threats to our democracy are still present and persistent. There are still extreme MAGA Republicans propagating the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen and elected officials who have tried to whitewash the violence that happened that day. As Americans, it’s incumbent on all of us to call out these insidious attacks that weaken our democracy. We must never forget what happened on that solemn day, and Democrats stand united in protecting our democracy.”
