As Chris Christie attempts to spin his extreme MAGA past on CNN, here’s your reminder that he’s a longtime champion of Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda — working to undermine abortion access in New Jersey, gifting corporations with tax giveaways, calling to slash critical programs like Social Security and Medicare, and refusing to take ownership for his administration’s corruption scandal. 

Let’s not forget Christie carried water for Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda for years — playing multiple roles to support Trump’s presidency and ultimately giving the administration an “A” rating.

CNN: “Christie was the first sitting governor to endorse Trump back in February, less than a month after ending his own presidential campaign.”

“Christie has had a visible presence in the Trump campaign in the past few months. He stood behind Trump during the presumptive nominee’s election night news conference nearly two weeks ago, and Christie traveled to Indiana last month with Trump to attend political meetings, including a meeting with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.”

Mediaite: “Sean Hannity asked the former New Jersey governor what grade he would give Trump’s presidency.

‘Overall I give the president an A,’ Christie said.”

Christie has a record of working to undermine women’s freedom to make their own health care decisions: backing a federal abortion ban, teaming up with anti-abortion extremist group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, and eliminating millions in grants for women’s health services. 

CBS New York: “New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that he is backing federal legislation that would ban abortions at 20 weeks of pregnancy. The potential Republican presidential candidate endorsed the ‘Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act’ in a statement to the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.”

Washington Post: “In the months before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, prominent antiabortion leader Marjorie Dannenfelser started meeting with Republican governors to talk through how the aftermath of the court’s decision might play out. She was joined in many of those meetings by an unlikely ally: former New Jersey governor Chris Christie.”

NJ.com: “Since 2010, Christie has successfully trimmed the $7.5 million in women’s healthcare funding, mostly with vetoes. He first argued that the funding was ‘duplicative’ and that the state couldn’t afford it, but said during his presidential bid in 2015 that cut reflected his socially conservative values.”

Christie has called for cutting Social Security and Medicare and campaigned on slashing these essential benefits in his 2016 presidential run. 

Los Angeles Times: “New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, saying that the ‘American people have the appetite for hard truths,’ called Tuesday for cutting Social Security benefits and raising Medicare premiums for future upper-income retirees and raising the retirement age.”

Time: “New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will unveil a proposal to change Social Security and Medicare Tuesday in a speech in New Hampshire, as he seeks to inject new life into his presidential ambitions.”

Christie REPEATEDLY blocked opportunities for working families to receive more affordable health care, calling to repeal the Affordable Care Act and vetoing a program that would allow constituents to find affordable health insurance. 

The Hill: “Speaking to reporters at the National Governors Association on Saturday, Christie labeled Obamacare, the administration’s signature legislation, a ‘failure on a whole number of levels’ and said it should be repealed.”

Reuters: “New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said on Thursday he vetoed a bill that would have created a health insurance exchange for his state under President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare program.”

Christie consistently backed handouts for big corporations and the wealthy at the expense of working families and touted Trump’s tax scam.  

Asbury Park Press: “Christie supporters say it’s a bold, Reagan-esque move, but economists say his proposal is flawed and would likely end up hurting the middle class. Christie’s plan would reduce the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25% and lower income taxes for all earners. Income taxes would be reduced by more than 11% for the country’s wealthiest.”

NorthJersey.com: “Republican Gov. Chris Christie spoke at a forum in Ocean County with Trump’s Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, and White House adviser Ivanka Trump, who is the president’s daughter, in which the trio said the package of tax cuts and simplifications would unleash economic growth not seen since the turn of the century.”

Associated Press: “Under Republican Gov. Chris Christie, New Jersey has authorized more than $2 billion in economic development tax breaks since 2014, often to corporations with notable political connections. One grant went to a developer who owes millions of dollars on an unpaid state loan, an Associated Press review found. That total of tax breaks handed out by New Jersey’s Economic Development Authority is more than the total amount issued during the decade before Christie took office.” 

After shamelessly throwing his support behind Donald Trump during the 2016 election, Christie neglected his responsibilities as chair of Trump’s opioids commission and then used his position to cash out with Big Pharma.

CBS News: “Christie, a supporter of the Trump campaign, was tapped by the president in March to chair the federal commission to combat opioid abuse, drug addiction and overdoses, which contributed to over 50,000 U.S. deaths in 2015. But so far, the effort has been off to a rocky start after the commission failed to make a deadline to file an interim report on the crisis for the second time back in July.”

Politico: “Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie signed a lucrative consulting contract with a pharmaceutical company less than a year after President Donald Trump’s bipartisan commission on opioids and addiction, which Christie chaired, recommended policy changes the drugmaker sought.

“Pacira BioSciences paid Christie $800,000, plus stock options, in 2018 and 2019 as it lobbied for new Medicare rates to boost the financial prospects of its flagship product, a non-opioid painkiller used in surgeries, according to a POLITICO review of the New Jersey company’s regulatory filings.”

For a DECADE, Christie has REFUSED to accept direct responsibility for his role in “Bridgegate,” a shameful ethics scandal fueled by a desire for political retaliation. 

The Guardian: “Four days of lane closures caused havoc in Fort Lee, a New Jersey town of 35,000 that sits under the George Washington, which [is] the world’s busiest bridge.
