House Republicans Work at Speaker Trump’s Command
July 27, 2023
Following Kevin McCarthy’s lead, House Republicans are falling in line to use the powers of Congress as a political tool for Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. In response, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“Speaker Trump is at it again, demanding that Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans pursue political payback for his own bipartisan impeachments while making a mockery of the House of Representatives — all to serve Trump’s 2024 campaign. McCarthy has done Trump’s bidding at every turn, and this is yet another reminder that Trump and the MAGA majority are the ones actually running the show. While Trump ramps up the pressure on McCarthy to waste the American people’s time and money on partisan opportunism, President Biden and Democrats will keep working to deliver real results for hardworking families.”
Donald Trump is calling on House Republicans to exact political revenge for his two impeachments. And when Trump says jump, McCarthy says, “How high?”
Associated Press: “It’s a political escalation, urged on by Trump, after his own two impeachments. … Now, as the Republican party’s frontrunner for the nomination to take on Biden in 2024, Trump has long seethed over his impeachments at the hands of House Democrats. McCarthy has suggested the Trump impeachments could be expunged, as proposed by Stefanik and Greene. But Trump wants Biden to face similar impeachment charges.”
Speaker-in-name-only Kevin McCarthy is following Trump’s orders and even fundraising off this political stunt.
CNN: “McCarthy makes most direct impeachment threat against Biden to date”
Sahil Kapur, NBC News: “Speaker McCarthy floats an ‘impeachment inquiry’ into President Biden in a text message to supporters, mentioning unproven allegations and adding a link to give money to his political operation.”
Other candidates in the 2024 Republican field have lined up behind Trump in calling for an impeachment inquiry into baseless claims.
Associated Press: “Donald Trump wants to see President Joe Biden impeached, and the former president’s allies in Congress and his 2024 GOP presidential rivals are eager to join that fight as his own legal challenges mount. Trump’s chief opponent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, this week said the House Republicans ‘are absolutely within their rights’ to consider an impeachment inquiry against Biden. Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, also running for president, said Republicans would be ‘justified to do it.’”
