Today, on the anniversary of MAGA Governor Brian Kemp signing Georgia’s extreme abortion ban into law, DNC spokesperson Jackie Bush released the following statement: 

“Thanks to Donald Trump and his MAGA minions, women in Georgia and throughout the South have lost critical access to reproductive care, emergency treatment and more. Georgia has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the nation, but instead of focusing on efforts to expand access to health care, Republicans in the state are doubling down on extreme and unpopular measures to make it harder for doctors to provide care. Come November, Georgians, Southerners, and Americans from every corner of the nation will go to the polls knowing that Joe Biden is the only choice in this election who will fight to give us more freedoms, not take them away.”

Thanks to Trump, every state in the South besides Virginia has enacted an extreme abortion ban.

Alabama: “Abortions became almost entirely illegal in Alabama on June 24. A 2019 state abortion ban took effect making it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy, with no exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.”

Arkansas: “Arkansas bans nearly all abortions after Roe v. Wade overturned”

Florida: “Florida’s 6-week abortion ban could displace thousands each month in a region where access is already severely limited”

Georgia: “Georgia abortion ban remains in effect after state Supreme Court ruling”

Kentucky: “Abortion is banned in almost all circumstances.”

Georgia’s extreme abortion ban is deeply unpopular amongst Georgians.

Georgia Recorder: “a majority of Georgians – particularly Black voters – continue to oppose the state’s new restrictive abortion law. Nearly 62% objected overall, with about 54% saying they strongly opposed it. Black respondents were the most adamantly against it, with 86.4% of them saying they firmly disapprove of the law.”

Georgia’s abortion ban disproportionately hurts Black women — in a state where the Black maternal mortality is already unacceptably high.

11Alive: “It also provides a look at who the bill may impact the most: Black people, younger patients and those with less education. Researchers said with the new restrictions, many of these patients won’t be able to access safe, legal abortions.”

“‘Lack of access to safe and legal abortion could also add to the maternal mortality rate in Georgia,’ Mosley said, ‘with numbers showing a possible increase of 18%.’”

“In 2019, according to the Center for Reproductive Rights, Georgia had the worst maternal mortality ratio of any state in the country. Black, American Indian/Alaska and Indigenous women are also two to three times more ‘likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women.’ Experts said overturning Roe v. Wade will disproportionately affect communities of color in Georgia, as for years, they have already faced many

barriers to maternal health.”

Thanks to Trump, Georgia bans abortion before many women even know they’re pregnant. 

Wall Street Journal: “The six-week deadline comes soon after many pregnant women miss their first period.”

“Georgia’s six-week window has prompted women to pay closer attention to when they might be pregnant and visit clinics earlier, researchers and providers say. Women are calling the Feminist Women’s Health Center if their period is even one day late or they have the first hint of early pregnancy symptoms like nausea, clinic staffers said.”

Thanks to Trump, access to care for women in Georgia and throughout the South has been decimated.

Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing.
