Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: Climate-Denying MAGA Minions Back Trump’s Reckless Decision to Pull Out of Paris Climate Agreement

Following the seventh anniversary of Donald Trump announcing he would pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement on Saturday, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:

“Donald the denier thinks climate change is a ‘hoax’ and his potential running mates clearly agree. As Trump abdicated America’s role as a global leader in addressing climate change by pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, his MAGA veepstakes contenders cheered him on and echoed his dangerous and out-of-touch climate denialism. President Biden rejoined the Paris Accords and restored American leadership in tackling the climate crisis, while Trump and MAGA Republicans are running back a failed agenda that puts the planet and Americans last.”

Trump’s MAGA veepstakes contenders have railed against the Paris Climate Agreement and denied the threat of climate change.

The State: “Tim Scott signed onto a letter signed by other Republican senators asking Trump to revoke the landmark deal to combat climate change agreed to by almost 200 nations in the French capital in 2015. The letter, sent to Trump last week, congratulates him on rolling back climate regulations.”

The Hill: “Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is ridiculing President Obama’s climate change deal, describing the international agreement as an ‘unfunny joke.’”

Argus Leader: “U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem on Thursday also voiced her support for Trump’s decision to exit the [Paris] accord.”

Talk Business: “U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., has been critical of the [Paris climate] agreement in the past. ‘I’m more worried about what people pay for electricity in Paris, Ark.’”

Katie Britt: “One of Biden’s first actions was to re-join the Paris Climate Accord, which puts restrictions on America but no enforceable restrictions on China.”

Vivek Ramaswamy: “This is the fundamental problem with international agreements such as the Paris Accords, which aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions to constrain warming to within a target such as 2°C or even 1.5°C; that looks at only one side of the equation.”

Kaitlan Collins, CNN: “North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum doesn’t say whether he believes humans are to blame for global warming as a new analysis finds extreme heat waves were made significantly more likely by the human-caused climate crisis.”

The Independent: “In July, JD Vance, Republican nominee in Ohio, agreed with a conservative radio talk show host who said he didn’t think there wasn’t a climate crisis.

“‘No, I don’t think there is, either,’ Mr Vance said on the show. ‘And even if there was a climate crisis, I don’t know how the way to solve it is to buy more Chinese-manufactured electric vehicles. The whole EV thing is a scam, right?’”

Byron Donalds: “I don’t believe in man-made climate change, that is number one. Number two, even if you believe in climate change, quote, unquote what are the actual solutions?”

After pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement as president, Trump is vowing to pull the U.S. out of the deal again.

Trump: “We will again get out of Paris. … So, get those proposals ready now.”

Politico: “How Trump could exit Paris — and make it stick”

“Prominent conservatives have devised a road map to cement climate policy rollbacks under a future President Donald Trump. Chief among their targets: exiting the Paris climate agreement for good.”

Reuters: “With Trump’s action, the United States will walk away from nearly every other nation in the world on one of the pressing global issues of the 21st century.”

Associated Press: “The United States on Wednesday formally left the Paris Agreement, a global pact it helped forge five years ago to avert the threat of catastrophic climate change. The move, long threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump and triggered by his administration a year ago, further isolates Washington in the world.”

Politico: “The U.S. under former President Donald Trump backslid in terms of international climate leadership, essentially standing still on carbon emissions when the world drastically needed to ramp up its climate-fighting efforts.”

Vox: “Trump pulling out of the Paris climate agreement is great news … for China”

“With the US stepping away from its role as a leader of the global fight against climate change, Beijing is already moving to fill the void, giving it a chance to benefit both diplomatically and economically. It isn’t the first time Trump — who spent the campaign demonizing China — will have wound up giving Beijing a major chance to expand its standing on the world stage.”

Reuters: “The U.S. decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord has bolstered China’s stature and diplomatic power, and could help Beijing achieve longer-term ambitions to upgrade its economy and dominate lucrative new industries.”
