Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: VP Contenders Opposed Lowering Insulin Costs for America’s Seniors
June 11, 2024
In response to Donald Trump trying to take credit for President Biden’s actions to lower insulin costs through the Inflation Reduction Act that Trump’s VP contenders voted against, DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:
“Check the record: Just like Donald Trump himself, all of his VP contenders in Congress opposed President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and its provisions to cap the cost of insulin for seniors. These MAGA veepstakes contestants have stood by Trump as he rails against lowering prescription drug prices, pushes to rip away health care access, and puts Big Pharma ahead of hardworking Americans. The American people aren’t buying Trump’s attempts to spin his failed record, and will reject the extreme, unpopular, and expensive agenda he and his MAGA allies are hellbent on campaigning on.”
Donald Trump is trying to take credit for President Biden’s actions to lower the cost of insulin for America’s seniors in the Inflation Reduction Act, which numerous Trump VP contenders railed against and he promised to repeal if he returns to office.
CNBC: “Trump claims credit for Biden’s insulin price cap”
“Under the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden issued a host of provisions aimed at bringing down the price of medicine for seniors, including capping the price of insulin at $35 per month for Medicare recipients. The president has continued to push for a more universal insulin cap that would cover younger people as well.”
New York Times: “The Inflation Reduction Act, the 2022 legislation that contains the insulin measure, originally capped the price of insulin for everyone with health insurance. But Republican holdouts in the Senate demanded that it only apply to older adults.”
Voting against in the Senate: Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton, Marsha Blackburn, Bill Hagerty, Joni Ernst, and Mike Lee.
Voting against in the House: Byron Donalds and Elise Stefanik.
Doug Burgum on whether he would push to repeal the IRA: “Yeah.”
