Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes: VP Contenders Back Trump’s Dangerous Attacks to Rip Away Reproductive Freedom
June 27, 2024
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in a case on emergency abortion care access, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:
“The future of our freedoms is on the ballot this November because Donald Trump and his VP contenders are united in an extreme and unpopular anti-choice agenda to attack reproductive health care. While Trump brags about overturning Roe v. Wade and celebrates cruel bans that are denying women critical care, his VP contenders are tripping over themselves to prove they are willing to take his anti-choice agenda even further. As Trump and his MAGA allies continue their cruel efforts to rip away women’s freedoms, voters are being given every reason to reject their extreme agenda at the ballot box in November.”
Donald Trump’s potential running mates want to ban abortion, with several opposing exceptions for rape or incest.
CBS News: “Burgum signed into law one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the country, an abortion ban that allows limited exceptions up to six weeks’ gestation, and only for medical emergencies at any other point in the pregnancy.”

Tim Scott: “We have to have a federal limit on how far we can go, and that is something that we have to discuss.”
Washington Post: “‘If I were president of the United States, I would literally sign the most conservative pro-life legislation that they can get through Congress,’ Scott added, regarding a federal ban.”
Byron Donalds: “As we celebrate this Holy Week and reflect on its true meaning, we recognize the profound dignity of EVERY human life, from the womb to the tomb. Today, @GovRonDeSantis signed the 15 week abortion ban, protecting the unborn in Florida and our most important God-given right—LIFE.”

THV11 Reporter: “And would you put in any sort of… exception for rape or incest or anything of that nature?”
Huckabee Sanders: “Like I said, I want to push for the strongest pro-life legislation that we can possibly have in our state…”
Reporter: “So probably not?”
Huckabee Sanders: “No, I would not advocate for those exceptions.”
Trump’s VP contenders also have long records of pushing to restrict or even ban medication abortion across the country.
Tennessee Lookout: “A total of 145 members of Congress from 36 states, who opposed access to mifepristone remaining as it is today, submitted their own 39-page brief in the case, calling on the Supreme Court to limit access.”
Signers include: Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, Elise Stefanik, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Michael Waltz.
Cindy Hyde-Smith: “U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and Congressman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) today reintroduced their Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act to strengthen federal controls over the regulation and distribution of chemical abortion drugs.
“The 31 original cosponsors of the Senate measure include: … Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), … Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) … Mike Lee (R-Utah), … Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) … Tim Scott (R-S.C.) … Michael Waltz (R-Fla.).”
Tim Scott: “U.S. Senator Tim Scott introduced legislation to protect the sanctity of human life by prohibiting chemical abortions from being performed without the supervision of a healthcare provider.”

Thanks to Trump “proudly” overturning Roe v. Wade, women are living under draconian abortion bans across the country and are being turned away from emergency rooms and denied critical care — and he thinks these bans are working “very brilliantly.”
Trump: “I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of … Roe v. Wade.”
Trump: “We terminated Roe v. Wade. … It’s really working out well for people. And they’re very, very happy.”
Trump: “We broke Roe v. Wade and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly… But they’re working, and it’s working the way it’s supposed to.”
