DNC Applauds Missouri Voters for Forcing a Statewide Vote on GOP’s Rigged Map
December 9, 2025
Today, People Not Politicians submitted over 300,000 signatures to force a statewide vote on Missouri’s Congressional map, stopping Republicans’ rigged Congressional map in its tracks and forcing a statewide referendum to appear on the 2026 ballot. Now, the new Republican-gerrymandered map will not go into effect unless a majority of Missouri voters approve it, putting the power directly in the hands of Missourians.
To support the signature-collection campaign, the DNC made a five-figure investment into the Missouri Democratic Party to hire organizing staff and support volunteer organizing efforts to collect signatures across the state. The DNC also sent more than 100,000 texts to supporters across the state to encourage them to sign the petition.
A reminder: Missouri Republicans rigged their congressional map earlier this year to avoid accountability for the Big Ugly Bill, which kicks hundreds of thousands of Missourians off of health care.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“In a major win for democracy and thanks to the tireless work of local advocates, Missourians will now get the chance to bring Republicans’ rigged congressional map to a vote. Republicans in Missouri tried to cheat because they know voters are furious about the Big Ugly Bill that kicks 230,000 Missourians off their health insurance and puts four rural hospitals at risk of closure. However, they weren’t expecting the fierce resistance from everyday Missourians who said enough was enough. The DNC was proud to stand with Missouri Democrats and People Not Politicians by investing in signature collection efforts. In Missouri and across the country, Democrats are taking the fight to Republicans.”
