DNC Slams Ron DeSantis for Calling Special Session to Rig Florida’s Congressional Map

Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called a special legislative session for April on mid-cycle redistricting ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

For months, DeSantis and other Trump allies in Florida have been looking at rigging the state’s Congressional map by adding additional Republican seats.

A reminder: Across the country, Donald Trump and Republicans are trying to rig the congressional map because they know Trump’s deeply unpopular Big Ugly Bill will cost them the midterms. In Florida alone, Trump’s Big Ugly Bill kicks 1.5 million people off their health insurance.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Ron DeSantis is bending the knee to Washington Republicans once again by agreeing to rig Florida’s congressional map ahead of the 2026 midterms. Republicans across the country are trying to rig the map because they know Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and his disastrous economic policies that are raising costs will cost them the election. In Florida alone, hundreds of thousands of families are about to be kicked off their health care, and millions more are seeing their insurance premiums skyrocket, all because of Donald Trump and Florida Republicans. While Republicans continue to choose Donald Trump and his billionaire donors over their own constituents, Democrats are fighting back. The DNC and Florida Democrats are all hands on deck to stop Trump’s power grab and protect Florida voters. Republicans wanted a showdown — and they’re going to get one.”
