NEW: Ghislaine Maxwell Offers To Clear Trump’s Name From Any Wrongdoing With Epstein in Exchange for Clemency
February 9, 2026

Today, during a virtual deposition before the House Oversight Committee, Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer told lawmakers that if Donald Trump granted Maxwell clemency, she would clear Trump’s name of any wrongdoing related to Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell, who was sentenced to prison for 20 years for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse minors, was already moved to a cushier minimum-security prison after meeting behind closed doors with Trump’s Deputy Attorney General and former personal lawyer last year.
Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is facing a barrage of bipartisan calls to resign after he appeared in a recent batch of the Epstein files. Lutnick has lied about the extent of his relationship with Epstein, saying that he vowed never again to be in the same room as Epstein in 2005, despite evidence that Lutnick continued to interact with Epstein and planned a visit several years later to Epstein’s island, according to the most recently released files.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“The masks are officially off. Ghislaine Maxwell is offering to clear Donald Trump’s name and make the Epstein scandal go away in exchange for her clemency because she knows that quid-pro-quo is this White House’s modus operandi. Trump’s administration has been engaged in a government cover-up since the beginning, refusing to deliver the transparency and accountability for Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes that they promised on the campaign trail. When will Trump stop protecting pedophiles and answer the calls of Epstein’s survivors and the American people?”
