Elizabeth Bennett-Parker Wins Virginia’s Senate District 39 Special Election, Protects Democratic Trifecta

Tonight, Democrat Elizabeth Bennett-Parker clinched victory in the Virginia Senate District 39 special election. With Bennett-Parker’s win, Democrats successfully protected our majority in Virginia’s state Senate, guaranteeing Democrats retain their governing trifecta in the Commonwealth.

Bennett-Parker’s victory follows a wave of Democratic victories and overperformances in special elections across the country. Since Donald Trump took office, Democrats have won or overperformed in 245 out of 275 key elections, underscoring how much voters are souring on Donald Trump and Republicans’ out-of-touch agenda that is raising families’ costs. Meanwhile, Democrats remain focused on what matters most: lowering costs, protecting health care, and standing up for working families.

In response to Elizabeth Bennett-Parker’s victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Elizabeth Bennett-Parker’s victory tonight is another clear sign that voters are rejecting Donald Trump and Republicans’ billionaires-first agenda and instead choosing Democrats who will fight for working families. While Republicans continue to push policies that raise costs and strip away health care, Democrats are winning by focusing on making life more affordable for families, expanding health care, and increasing opportunity. In red, blue, and purple states, Democrats have the momentum, and we’re keeping our foot on the gas as we work to elect strong Democratic candidates up and down the ballot this November.”
