Arkansas Democrat Alex Holladay Wins State House District 70 Election, Becomes 27th Democratic Legislative Flip Since 2025
March 4, 2026
Democrats continue to win and overperform in elections across the country
Last night, Arkansas Democrat Alex Holladay clinched a dominant victory in the Arkansas House District 70 election — another district previously held by a Republican now flipped by a Democrat. This victory is another sign that Democrats have the momentum heading into November. Democrats have now won or overperformed in 252 out of 282 key elections since Trump took office and have flipped 27 state legislative elections while Republicans have flipped zero.
In red, blue, and purple communities, voters are souring on Donald Trump and his disastrous, billionaire-first agenda that is raising costs on working families. In Arkansas, over 110,000 people are set to lose their health care because of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, rural hospitals are on the brink of closure, and families are paying hundreds of dollars more for the basics.
That’s why voters are putting their faith in strong Democratic leaders like Representative-elect Holladay who will fight every day to lower costs and protect Arkansans’ health care.
In response to Holladay’s dominant victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Representative-elect Holladay ran an exceptional campaign focused on solutions to the problems that families in Arkansas are facing, from the rising cost of groceries and utilities to the health care crisis caused by Trump’s ‘Big Ugly Bill.’ Rep.-elect Holladay’s dominant victory is a sign that voters are ready to put their trust in Democrats, even in districts where Republicans have held office for years. Across the South, Democrats continue to rise and win. I always say that when you organize everywhere, you can win anywhere, and that there’s no such thing as a permanent red district. This big win is yet another warning sign to Republicans across the country, and a new reality is now sinking in: no Republican seat is safe. From now until November, Democrats are keeping our foot on the gas and organizing and competing everywhere, including in Arkansas and the rest of the Sun Belt.”
