📈 NEW POLL: AAPI Adults Feel the Consequences of Trump’s Senseless Immigration Crackdown

A new poll released by AP-NORC and AAPI Data, a nonpartisan research organization, of Asian American and Pacific Islanders found that a majority of AAPI adults say the U.S. is no longer the land of opportunity for immigrants. About half say they — or someone they know — have been detained or deported within the last year, started carrying proof of immigration status or U.S. citizenship, upended travel plans, or significantly changed their routines because of immigration status.

In response, DNC Executive Director Roger Lau released the following statement:

“A year and a half into the Trump administration’s cruel and chaotic mass deportation campaign, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are personally suffering the consequences of ICE’s abuse of power. Trump promised prosperity but delivered betrayal, devastating families, small businesses, and local communities. Democrats are working every day to earn the trust of AAPI voters, fight for our civil rights, and defeat this destructive, racist agenda. Together, we will hold Trump and Republicans accountable at the ballot box this November.”

AAPI voters are among the fastest-growing demographics, and their frustration with Trump is changing how they look at America ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary.

Associated Press: “The survey found a majority of AAPI adults — about 6 in 10 — believe the U.S. used to be a great country for immigrants but is not anymore. Only about 3 in 10 AAPI adults say America is a great place for immigrants, while a few, 5%, say it was never a great place for immigrants.”

AP-NORC: “Eight in ten AAPI adults value the American dream. Less than half are proud or excited about the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.”
