After nearly four months of conflict, which resulted in the death of over a dozen U.S. service members, billions of taxpayer dollars spent, and skyrocketing costs, Donald Trump and JD Vance are touting their weak and shaky “deal” with Iran — that even their biggest supporters are rebuking.
Trump and Vance’s “deal” gives Iran sanctions relief, oil sales, and a $300 billion fund — while Americans get nothing except reeling from higher prices and footing the bill for the war. Voices from every corner of their coalition are asking: What did Americans get out of the war Trump started with Iran?
- Sen. Bill Cassidy: “Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future. Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal.”
- Sen. James Lankford: “If you want a deal to last, it can’t be an executive agreement.”
- Sen. Thom Tillis: The agreement is “doomed to fail” because of the lack of congressional oversight.
- Sen. Roger Wicker: “I am concerned that the memorandum of understanding negotiates away the victories of Operation Epic Fury in ways that are completely out of step with the President’s goals.”
- Ben Shapiro: “This MOU appears to be, just from the text, a disaster that does not achieve any of the signal goals that were set by the administration at the beginning … In my opinion, the vice president of the United States, the chief negotiator on this particular project, has not well served the president.”
- Nikki Haley: “This regime chants death to America, murders our troops, and attempts to assassinate Americans on U.S. soil. They believe they have an obligation to destroy us. Now, we plan to unlock billions of dollars and lift sanctions, with the promise of even more money.”
- Mark Levin: “Iran’s oil industry will now generate tens of billions in revenue to the terror regime.”
- Erick Erickson: “Trump has surrendered to Iran. Those who kill Americans love this deal.”
- National Review Editorial Board: “The memorandum of understanding that both parties are signing is lopsided in Iran’s favor.”
- The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board: “This is a recipe for the surrender of the Strait to the dictates of Iranian foreign policy.”
- New York Post Editorial Board: “Vice President JD Vance’s sales pitch for the Iran deal is simply terrible — but President Trump’s may be worse.”
- The New York Times Editorial Board: “Mr. Trump made a terrible mistake starting this war. He prosecuted it recklessly and in open defiance of the law. The United States is emerging weaker — militarily, diplomatically and economically — and will pay strategic costs for years to come.”
- Institute for the Study of War: “Top Iranian officials are using these changes to imply that they have satisfied their key war aims of controlling the Strait of Hormuz and preserving Hezbollah.”
