On the fourth anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Alicia Andrews released the following statement:
“Four years ago, Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices overturned nearly 50 years of precedent and set back the rights of women by generations. Almost immediately after Dobbs v. Jackson, Republican legislators raced to intervene in the most personal decision a woman can make — limiting access to lifesaving care, prosecuting mothers and their doctors for providing that care, and banning abortion even in cases of rape, incest, and threats to the mother’s life. In a post-Dobbs America, women have died of medical complications after being denied emergency interventions, and under Trump’s second term, these dangerous restrictions have only expanded as Republicans seek to fulfill their ultimate goal of outlawing abortion nationwide.
“Ever since Dobbs opened the floodgates and rolled back essential protections, Democrats have been standing up for the rights of women and fighting back. We stand with the majority of Americans who support reproductive freedom as we work to defeat extreme right-wing Republicans who want to eliminate the right to choose. This November, with opportunities to protect abortion access on the ballot in Nevada, Virginia, Missouri, and Idaho, Democrats will continue our effort to restore the freedom to choose for every woman in America.”
