NEW DATA: Inflation Rises As Americans Pay More for Less

New economic data released today reveals that under Donald Trump, inflation rose 4.1% over the last 12 months — the highest in three years, as Trump’s disastrous economic policies and war with Iran continue to drive up prices. Core inflation also rose 3.4%, the highest since fall 2023.

In Trump’s economy, the cost of necessities, including gas, groceries, and healthcare, has increased by over $3,100 for the average American family. Americans have spent an extra $775 to $1,313 per household, with much of that cost going to fuel and fertilizer cost increases. The average family spent $372 more on gas during Trump’s war with Iran, and $310 more on groceries in 2025.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is destroying working families and Trump, Vance, and the administration aren’t interested in making things easier for everyday Americans. Costs continue to rise as Americans struggle to make ends meet and Trump blatantly ignores their concerns — all while he throws Trump-branded events and forces taxpayers to foot the bill for his vanity projects. Working families are tired of being left behind while Trump sells them out to enrich himself and pursue his billionaire-first agenda.”

To make matters worse, Trump’s job market continues to worsen with U.S.-based employers cutting 97,000 jobs in May, the highest for any May since the COVID-19 pandemic. This past month, Trump’s overall approval rating hit record lows as Americans feel the everyday strain of living in his economy. It’s no wonder 7 out of 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy, and nearly 65% believe the economy is on the wrong track as families struggle to put food on the table.
