With Donald Trump reportedly telling Speaker Mike Johnson that “no one gives a [bleep] about housing” and bragging that he doesn’t “think about Americans’ financial situation,” it’s clear that Republicans don’t care about easing Americans’ financial pain. While Democrats in Congress fight to lower costs, Trump would rather throw a temper tantrum by refusing to sign bipartisan housing legislation into law than address the housing affordability crisis that is pricing families out of their homes.
A reminder: Since Trump retook office, he has made life unaffordable for millions of Americans. Nearly 8 in 10 voters say that the cost of housing is extremely or very important, and nearly 90% of voters believe that buying a home is harder than ever before. Under Trump, inflation is soaring to the highest level in years, with American families spending $622 more on housing costs such as rent and mortgage due to Republicans’ reckless economic agenda and war of choice in Iran.
