Trump’s base of supporters is shrinking and losing enthusiasm heading into the midterm elections
Donald Trump’s approval rating is tanking, and even his most loyal supporters are fed up with him. A new poll released yesterday showed a dismal 15% of people “strongly approve” of Trump’s job performance — a record low in the poll’s history and 12 points lower than when Trump returned to office.
Only 6% of independents “strongly approved” of Trump, compared to a staggering 71% total disapproval rating and 51% who “strongly disapproved.” Just 41% of Republicans and 43% of Trump’s 2024 voters approved of him strongly. Most notably, Trump’s base is shrinking: Among white voters who didn’t graduate from college — what is supposed to be one of the strongest demographics for Trump — just 24% “strongly approved” of him.
In response, DNC Spokesperson Jaelin O’Halloran released the following statement:
“Donald Trump promised to ‘lower costs on Day One,’ stop endless wars, ‘drain the swamp,’ and release the Epstein files — and without fail he has betrayed every single promise. It’s no wonder even his strongest supporters have turned their backs on him and his base is falling apart. As the midterms approach, Americans are stuck with sky-high prices and a massive bill for another deadly and costly war Trump can’t get out of while Trump uses the presidency as a cash-grab to enrich himself, his family, and his rich donors. Trump’s support is plummeting to record lows, leaving Republicans heading towards a humiliating defeat in the midterms.”
