Since Trump began his unpopular war of choice with Iran, Americans have paid $60 billion more for gas, about $504 per household
Due to the global oil shortage caused by Donald Trump’s deadly and costly war with Iran, America’s two largest oil corporations, ExxonMobil and Chevron, reported second-quarter windfall earnings worth a combined $26.5 billion.
Americans have spent $60 billion more on gas since the beginning of the war — resulting in the average family spending $504 more on gas. The average price of a gallon of gas today is $4.10, as gas refuses to budge from $4.05–$4.10 per gallon.
Overall, Trump’s war with Iran is projected to cost American taxpayers as much as $100 billion — four times the original $25 billion estimate — and cost consumers nearly $150 billion, about $1,100 per household since the war started.

“Americans are footing the bill for Donald Trump’s deadly and costly war with Iran, while billionaires and big corporations get even richer. Working families are already stretching their budgets to afford higher prices in Trump’s economy, and now they’re shelling out more at the pump while Big Oil rakes in the cash. In Trump’s America, billionaires and big corporations get a boost off of the American people while everyone else gets left in the dust.”
Before Trump’s war with Iran, Americans were already struggling under Trump’s economy — paying a total of nearly $160 billion in tariff costs between February 2025 and November 2025, an average of nearly $1,200 per family. It’s no wonder almost 80% of Americans rate the economy poorly, and nearly 60% of voters feel the economy is getting worse.
