Today, JD Vance sent out a fundraising text on behalf of the RNC that read: “If you can’t give right now, don’t. Groceries cost what they cost.”
Americans paid $310 more for groceries in Donald Trump and Vance’s first year than in 2024, and grocery prices are higher than when Trump took office. Prices of staples like beef (+9.4%), coffee (+10%), and fresh fruits and vegetables (+5.5%) all skyrocketed in the past month.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“The Trump-Vance administration has sent grocery prices skyrocketing, making life unaffordable for everyday Americans, and Vance is turning a blind eye to the hardship of American families. Donald Trump and Vance’s unpopular war with Iran and their reckless tariffs have made it nearly impossible for working families to put food on the table. But instead of providing some relief, Trump and Vance are sucking the American people dry as they use taxpayer dollars for endless wars, vanity projects, and tax breaks for their billionaire buddies.”
The average American household has had to spend more than $3,500 extra since Trump and Vance took office. Meanwhile, the Trump family’s net worth has nearly doubled since the 2024 election to a whopping $10 billion. Trump himself raked in at least $2 billion since returning to the White House — more than any other year.
