DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement commemorating Labor Day:
“As the first DNC Chair to be a card-carrying member of a union, I’m a firm believer that working people aren’t just a part of the Democratic Party, they’re at the core of everything we do.
“Over the past year and a half, I’ve had the honor of meeting with labor leaders, rank-and-file union members, and Americans from every corner of our country who have borne the brunt of Trump’s unrelenting attacks on working people. While Trump and Republicans engage in shameless corruption on behalf of wealthy corporations and rich elites, Democrats stand shoulder to shoulder with the workers who built our country and helped usher in the largest middle class in American history. We will not back down from the fight to make life easier and less expensive by demanding a living wage, advocating for increased benefits, and protecting the right to collectively bargain.
“Every worker in America deserves the freedom, not just to survive, but to actually thrive. Democrats will always fight for — and with — workers by supporting grassroots organizing to expand affordable healthcare, lower the cost of housing, build stronger schools, and make the American Dream a reality for all.”
