Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a lower court ruling that the state of North Carolina had engaged in intentional racially-discriminatory gerrymandering, DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement:

“Today marks another major victory in the fight against Republican attempts to implement discriminatory redistricting plans. Republicans have systematically drawn district lines to intentionally disenfranchise African American and Latino voters for too long, but from Texas to North Carolina and beyond, the Constitution is catching up with them. As Congressman John Lewis often says, the right vote is precious – almost sacred – so Democrats will not rest until our democratic process is free of all measures that deliberately discriminate in order to orchestrate an immoral GOP-driven power grab.”
