Tom Perez on Shooting in Virginia

In the aftermath of this morning’s horrific shooting in Virginia, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:

“I’m heartbroken by the news of this morning’s appalling and cowardly attack in Virginia. We are sending our thoughts to all of the victims of this senseless act of violence, we are praying for their speedy recovery, and we are grateful to the Capitol Police and first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to protect them.

“This unconscionable act is an attack on our entire country and all those who answer the call to public service. While we don’t have all the answers yet, we do know that Congressman Steve Scalise, other congressional members, and their staff were attacked while practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game – an event for Republicans and Democrats to come together and raise money for charity. Regardless of our political differences, today reminds us that we are all Americans. Such violence has no place in our democracy.”
