Following reports that the American auto industry is slowing down and automakers are cutting jobs, DNC spokesperson Daniel Wessel released the following statement:

“In 2009, President Obama saved the American auto industry along with 1.5 million U.S. jobs. And now, after years of growth and despite President Trump’s promises to create jobs and bring back the American auto industry, automakers are cutting thousands of U.S. jobs.

“For American autoworkers, Trump’s broken promises represent a devastating reality: They may soon lose their jobs and livelihoods. While Trump appears to have forgotten the very workers he once advocated for, Democrats will continue to stand with American workers and fight to save and create good-paying jobs right here in America.”
