Americans Say Russian Probe Serious, As Trump’s Base Shrinks
August 10, 2017
A new poll found that 70% of Americans believe the Russian investigation should be able to look into Trump’s finances and 60% say the Russian probe is a serious matter. Trump continues to call the Russian investigation a “witch hunt,” but it is clear Americans disagree. On top of Trump’s lies not breaking through, recent polls have shown that Donald Trump’s base is shrinking.
Trump may not like it, but these trend lines are undebatable. The Russian probe is a serious matter and it’s clear that Trump is losing his base. Trump has a lot of problems to work out while on vacation.

Politico/Morning Consult poll: “However you measure the president’s base, it has diminished, not increased, in the 7 months he’s been in office. […] The percentage who approve strongly — one way to measure the size of Trump’s most fervent supporters — is also at a new low: just 18 percent.”

CNN poll: “Those numbers have soured in recent months, particularly among Trump's core supporters. Among Republicans, strong approval has dropped from 73% in February to 59% now. Among whites who do not have college degrees, a core component of Trump's base, just 35% strongly approve, down 12 points since February.”
IBD/TIPP poll: “Trump lost significant support across the board, but saw big declines among areas of core support, including Republicans, Midwesterners, middle-income families, white men and the high-school educated.[…] Among Republicans, for example, Trump's approval rating fell from 83% in July to 71% in August.”

Firehouse/Optimus survey: “Trump’s base of support has shrunk from 35.3% of voters who have a ‘strongly favorable’ view of him in April to only 28.6% today. Notably, much of that erosion is among Republicans: Strongly favorable views among GOP voters dropped from 54.1% to 44.9%, while unfavorable views increased from 20.5% to 27.9%.”

Quinnipiac University poll: “Buried in that poll is one sign of where he's losing that support: For the first time, the poll showed Trump with a negative net approval rating among white Americans without a college degree. […] The poll, conducted July 27 through Aug. 1, showed that only 43 percent of non-college white Americans say they approve of Trump, compared to 50 percent who disapprove, yielding a net approval of minus 7 points.”
