Today, President Trump turned to Twitter to say that the federal help desperately needed by the people of Puerto Rico won’t be there “forever.” DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement in response:

“American citizens are dying and Donald Trump is tweeting. This is just the latest example of Trump denigrating the people of Puerto Rico and treating them as second-class citizens. Our fellow Americans on the island need our unconditional support, not the president’s childish insults and arrogant posturing. FEMA and other agencies must remain on the ground as long as needed, as they would in any other community recovering from a natural disaster. It's time for President Trump to stop acting like it's ‘mission accomplished.’ Our mission has barely begun.”

El día de hoy el presidente Trump recurrió a Twitter para señalar que la ayuda federal que desesperadamente necesitan en Puerto Rico no estará allí “para siempre”.  Como respuesta, el Director del Comité Nacional Demócrata, Tom Pérez, realizó las siguientes declaraciones:

“Ciudadanos estadounidenses están muriendo mientras Trump envía tuits. Esto es sólo el más reciente ejemplo del trato denigrante de Trump a los puertorriqueños, considerándolos ciudadanos de segunda categoría. Nuestros conciudadanos en la isla requieren nuestro apoyo incondicional, no los insultos y arrogancia infantil del presidente. FEMA y las otras agencias deben permanecer allí por el tiempo que sea necesario, como sucedería en cualquier otra comunidad recuperándose de un desastre natural. Es el momento de que el presidente Trump deje de actuar como que ‘el trabajo está hecho’. Esto apenas comienza”.
